Last night, President Obama brought forth on this continent, a new policy regarding energy. OK, it’s really not that new, but it’s getting a new emphasis. He lamented a lack of solar and wind power, and even commented on how the jobs being those things were over in China, rather than here in the good old US of A. He lamented a lot of things, but apparently doesn’t grasp the reality of what he’s wanting. Continue reading The problems with the new energy policy

A week ago, President Obama had a very Bush-like gaffe. Three different times in a speech during the National Prayer Breakfast, he made reference to Navy “Corpse-men.” In my mind, this is akin to Bush talking about “nucular” weapons, but I take a special affront to the Commander in Chief not grasping the correct pronunciation of the members of the United States Navy Hospital Corps.
I take special affront because I was one. Continue reading I was a Corpsman, not a Corpse-man

My family and I just returned from visiting the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Georgia. I stopped by the booths for the Republican and the Democrat Party. The Republicans were selling shirts with images of the Don’t Tread on Me flag and shirts with sayings like “I’ll Keep My Guns and Bible, You Keep The Change.” I found it interesting that the Republican party, at least at this booth, had co-opted the Tea Party movement. If the Republicans truly felt like that, we would likely not be in the mess that we are in. I dare say that the eyes of this country are open now. Pretending to be on the side of the Tea Party members won’t be enough if (and that is a big IF) they are trusted with their vote ever again.
Next I visited the Democrat booth. There was a life sized cut out of President Obama and a poster that read “2009 Nobel Peace Prize Winner” by his feet. A woman that claimed to be part native American was visiting the booth. She was fawning all over the president. She said that she was glad that he won the Nobel Peace Prize. “That will encourage him to just keep going,” she said. The two ladies working the booth agreed. One said, “Yes, with God on his side, all things are possible.” This had me wondering what God she was talking about. After all, it was Obama who told Turkey that we are no longer a Christian nation. He basically ignored the National Day of Prayer and his administration insists that this year the Christmas trees will be called Holiday trees. Perhaps his God and mine are not the same. I’m just saying…

It’s great when liberals and conservatives can find common ground not only with each other, but also with us libertarians. It doesn’t happen often, so it’s worth embracing it when it actually does happen. With a new power that the Obama administration, this could well be such an occasion. Last night, President Obama pretty much ran ABC and discussed his health care plan. Of course, the subject of a network basically serving as a platform for a President without real, substantive debate regarding the policy is a subject for elsewhere. However, the policy itself needs some serious discussion. Continue reading Health Care Reform

For years, Fox News has been decried as a conservative puppet network dedicated to pushing the Republican agenda while masquerading as a “fair and balanced” news organization. And, well, there may be something to it. However, it looks like ABC is ready to fill that void for the President. On June 24, 2009, they’ll be airing live from inside the White House for what has been termed a “conversation” on health care. It’s just a damn shame it’s a one sided conversation. In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, President Obama offered up this little gem that should really clear things up for all of us:
I think the irony — and you wouldn’t know this from reading your publication’s editorial page — (laughter) — is that I actually would like to see a relatively light touch when it comes to the government.
A “relatively light touch”? Thank God for that! Continue reading So Obama’s “Small Government”?

Any time a President gets involved in the inner workings of Congress, or really any executive gets into the legislative matters, there is a chance of backlash. Here in Georgia, good old King Roy got bounced out of the Governor’s Mansion for his manner in working with the General Assembly. Now that President Obama is getting into the issue of health care, the backlash is already starting. Continue reading Perhaps He Should Have Thought a Little More

President Obama has long said he had no intention of dictating specifics of any new plans to combat what he calls the problems of the American health care system. Of course, now he’s decided he’s going to get more involved in the specifics. Why? Well, apparently it’s because some of what President Obama wants in the new health care reforms are meeting some level of friction, specifically the idea of a comprehensive health care coverage for the 45 million Americans who are without health insurance.
Of course, the fact that somewhere in the neighborhood of 40% of those could have health insurance if they wanted it seems to get no play in the mainstream media. Continue reading Obama To Get More Involved In Health Care

The following is an open letter to President Obama. While I seriously doubt he’ll ever see this, nor will any of his staff see it, I pray I’m wrong on this and he heeds these words.
Dear President Obama,
You have passed your first 100 days and are currently dealing with quite a few crisis. Not only is our economy in shambles, but North Korea is starting their mess again. You and I have fundamental differences on how to fix the economy, and I suspect you have no interest in listening to my views on that. North Korea is just saber rattling again, but you have advisers who are telling you that too. No, today I’d like to talk to you about winning some respect from my side.
