Last night, President Obama gave us an insight into his own plan for health insurance reform. I won’t call it health care reform, because our health care system is the best in the world. It’s how we pay for it that’s really up for discussion, for better or worse. And after last night, we know that the public option is, indeed, still on the table. The year was 2003. The United States was gearing up to invade Iraq. Battle lines were being drawn, including in the entertainment industry. A girl band, at the top of their genre, made a statement against war at a concert in England that started a firestorm against them. They were against the war, which was hardly controversial in and of itself. But the band was the Dixie Chicks, and the genre was the favorite of many conservative, Country music.
Boycotts were quickly called for, and radio stations voluntarily pulled their music from rotation. The liberals in the media called it “blacklisting” and “censorship”, despite the fact that it was all voluntary. Today, they’re doing the same thing to Whole Foods. The health care debate has been front and center for weeks now, with disruption and accusations flying in all directions at town halls all over the nation. Pundits and Politicians on both sides are throwing around insults against activists and one another, all in an effort to win favor. And yet, they manage to actually discuss the issue clearly and concisely.
Ain’t America grand? Continue reading Tackling health care

In this era of the housing crisis and stock market crash, that many claim to have been brought on from a lack of regulation, it’s easy to get caught up in the idea of government stepping in and protecting us from ourselves. And, with the “health care crisis” that the President keeps talking about, there’s plenty of talk now about the government saving us from evil employers as well. A couple of days ago, news broke that Wal-mart was siding with the progressive think tank, Center for American Progress in calling for an employer mandate to provide health insurance.
Why? Because they can afford it, but a lot of their competitors (the small, locally owned businesses in particular) can’t. They’re hardly the first corporation to do this either. Continue reading Why I Hate Regulations

For years, Fox News has been decried as a conservative puppet network dedicated to pushing the Republican agenda while masquerading as a “fair and balanced” news organization. And, well, there may be something to it. However, it looks like ABC is ready to fill that void for the President. On June 24, 2009, they’ll be airing live from inside the White House for what has been termed a “conversation” on health care. It’s just a damn shame it’s a one sided conversation. There’s a lot of messed up things in this world. One is our nations health insurance system. Medical costs are sky high, and there’s a lot of debate on what to do about it. Frankly, I’ve been racking my brain trying to come up with a viable alternative that would solve the crisis without violating my principles. So far, I’ve got nothing.
However, Reason has an interesting article today that really takes a look at health care reform and lays out some facts that proponents of universal health care would do well to understand. Continue reading Another Health Care Analysis
