I’m a cynical cuss sometimes, and I know it. Anything less than real freedom isn’t close to enough for me, and I’m vocal about it. For me though, the touchstone of a free society is how the treat firearms. Ultimately, more gun freedom will ultimately equal other freedom, come hell or high water. Yesterday, Georgia became a lot more free. Continue reading Welcome to the new world

In today’s Albany Herald, Carlton Fletcher has an article about an incident that happened in a local restaurant. Fletcher likes to people watch, which I can understand. People are weird, and watching them can be amusing. One person had the latest fashion for many young people in this area, their pants sagged down to show off their underwear. I’m like Fletcher, I don’t get riled up like Jack Stone does at this. I’ve seen and done far to many idiotic things in the name of fashion myself to judge these folks. I don’t like it, but that just means I won’t do it myself.
Then, another party comes in openly wearing his pistol. He and a friend apparently sit down and glare at the young man with the saggy britches, laughing loudly and obnoxiously. Fletcher is the kind who’s not a fan of openly carried firearms, and he makes reference to that in his column. But in this case, is the problem the gun? Or the jerk who happened to be carrying it? Continue reading It shouldn’t be the gun that was the problem

In yesterday’s Albany Herald, a guest columnist writes that Georgia doesn’t need casinos or guns in chruches. Now, what those two things have in common, besides being discussed right now, is beyond me but she’s the one who wrote it. Unfortunately for her, she apparently doesn’t understand a whole lot about the ways of the world. Continue reading Guest columnist uninformed at best

It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of gun control. I was at one time, but I got to feeling better and understand that it just doesn’t work. The recent shooting in Las Vegas is actually a good example of how it doesn’t work. Continue reading Gun control that doesn’t work

In the Sunday Herald, Metro Editor Carlton Fletcher takes on guns. He mentions a couple of high profile incidents where people with their legal firearms killed someone. These are horrible crimes, and my thoughts and prayers are with the families of the slain. But it’s important to note that while these two crimes are horrible in and off themselves, they don’t even begin to show the full impact of people legally carrying their firearms. Continue reading Guns aren’t the problem, people are.

As the Good Life City awoke, we learned of two violent home invasions that left three people injured. Today, those households are picking up the pieces of their lives as they have become the latest statistics on violent crime in Albany. While I have every confidence that the police are working diligently (a source tells SWGA Politics that the vehicle stolen in the second invasion has been recovered and police are interviewing a “person of interest”), we have to understand that there’s only so much they can do. Continue reading Crime and Punishment…what can be done

We live in troubled times with troubled people. In a post yesterday, I spoke briefly on who’s fault our crime problem is, and that I believe the blame doesn’t rest on law enforcement’s shoulders. There were some great comments, but I thought it was important to delve into why it’s not up to the police to protect you.
Obviously, many disagree. Yes, as a Libertarian, we are known for individualist positions and minimize the state’s role in just about anything. It’s easy to blow of my opinion as that of someone who wants less government overall. It’s also easy to blow off the comments of police when they tell you that they can’t, since obviously they’re to busy eating doughnuts instead of preventing crime, right?
Well, how about the court system? Continue reading Why it’s not up to the police to protect you

Over the last six months, there has been a drastic increase in firearm purchases. Gun enthusiasts can also tell you about the increase in ammo sales as well, ammunition leaving the store almost as fast as it gets there. And, since gun control groups will be the first to tell you that the only way to get rid of crime is to get rid of guns, I’d love to hear them explain this report from the Washington Post. Continue reading If guns cause crime, then explain this one

MSNBC reports about Ken Pagano, pastor of New Bethel Church in Louisville, KY and his idea of celebrating Independence Day. His plan? He has invited his congregation to wear their firearms. It’s just a shame that they have to be unloaded.
However, there is criticism. Continue reading Guns And Church

In pretty much any world, 2.5 million is a huge number unless you’re talking in terms of governmental finance. The idea of 2.5 million is kind of boggling to most folks, who aren’t sure what it actually would look like. Count me in that group as well. It’s a massive number of money or people. And if the idea of 2.5 million people having anything in common is impressive, it should be.
It just happens to be the estimated number of Americans who defend themselves annually with a firearm. Continue reading 2.5 Million
