An Open Letter Regarding the Supreme Court

Dear President Obama,

I don’t actually expect you to read this, much less comment, but other people will read this, and hopefully it will make some difference.  I write to you as an American taxpayer and voter.  No, I didn’t vote for you.  I don’t hesitate to tell you this because we are the United States of America, and I’m free to vote for whomever I so choose, and I didn’t feel you were best for this nation. In all fairness though, neither was Senator McCain. Continue reading An Open Letter Regarding the Supreme Court

The Culture of Government

Within the posts on this page, you will routinely see a libertarian slant, because both Jeff and I are Libertarians. I personally make no apologies for this, since talk radio is inundated with conservative leaning hosts, and TV is inundated with liberals. So, this little slice of the ‘net is for the libertarians.

Libertarians generally want the liberty (hence the root of the word libertarian) to simply be and do, so long as it doesn’t cross that line of harming others. Simply put, we don’t want government telling us what to do. Our goal is simply a government that lets people be idiots if they want, and be self destructive if they want, but also allows them to be great. Continue reading The Culture of Government

One Man’s Take On Freedom

What follows does not necessarily represent to position or opinions of anyone but myself.

What is freedom?  It’s a concept that our Founding Fathers seemed to understand completely, but we today have lost sight of it.  Now, freedom is like pornography.  No one can define it, but they know it when they see it.  However, freedom isn’t that hard to really understand.

Freedom is, in my simplest explaination, a lack of interference from authority.  It must be a lack of government interference in anything and everything we do, so long as no one else is harmed directly in the process.  With this definition, its obvious how we in the US are not as free as we like to think. John Oxendine and Liberty, Part 1: Transportation and Family Values

Note on the following: All views expressed are my own unless explicitly stated otherwise.

I follow Ox on both Twitter and Facebook, and recently the guy has been talking about Liberty quite a bit. Honestly, I literally feel sick every time I see it, and I hope by the end of this post you understand why.

You see, quite honestly John Oxendine is a theocratic Statist of the worst sort. While this comes into play somewhat in his current position as Insurance Commissioner, it will be one of the greatest tragedies this state has ever experienced if he somehow lays claim to the Governor’s Mansion.

The remainder of this post will be dedicated to commentary on each of the Ox’s position’s, as found on his campaign website.

[UPDATED] HB 614 FAILS!!!

HB 614, the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program that Jason Pye and I warned you about yesterday and I asked you to call your Senator about has FAILED in the Senate by a vote of 25-29-1-1. Senator Steve Thompson (D-Marietta) did not vote on the measure and Senator Ross Tolleson (R-Perry) was excused.

Of the local delegation, only Senator John Bulloch(R-Ochlocknee) voted against the measure. Senators John Crosby (R-Tifton), George Hooks (D-Americus), and Freddie Sims (D-Albany) all voted for the measure.

I was watching the debate and had the live download going, so I hope to be able to post video of the debate soon, as Senator Preston Smith (R-Rome) did an AMAZING job speaking against this measure, both when questioning the measure’s sponsor – who happens to be Senator David Shafer (R-Duluth), who is running to be your next Lt Governor – and when in the well speaking on his own.

Indeed, one particularly insightful quote from Senator Smith was this:

“We are at the end of the day, the guardians of liberty for our citizens.”

The problem is this: The following Senators chose NOT to guard our liberty, and instead voted to allow the State to monitor even further and more obtrusively your private medical decisions:
