Tifton Forum Question 2: Why Hasn’t Anything Been Done Yet?

In the second question from the Tifton Forum, all four candidates answer the question that is essentially, “Why hasn’t anything been done yet, even though Republicans are in complete control in Atlanta?”

Tifton Forum Question 1 – Education

This was – I believe – the only question answered by a single candidate, Eric Johnson. In this video, Johnson describes his views on education in Georgia.

Eric Johnson Speech at Tifton Forum

Johnson starts out with a rather smart move – acknowledging that he is in Austin Scott’s backyard and quite possibly a lot of the vote there will be going for Scott, but that he hopes to be the crowd’s #2 choice.

[UPDATED] Tifton Governor Round Robin

As promised, I went to the Tifton Governor Round Robin hosted by the Tift Area Tea Party Patriots last night. I’m working on getting the video ready, and I will put it up as soon as I get it. I’m debating on whether to just put up the entire thing at once (will take 10 different youtube videos) without any commentary or put each clip up one at a time with some commentary. What do y’all think?

I also got some video before hand of Gerry Purcell, a GOP Insurance Commissioner Candidate, talking about inter-state sales of insurance, which I will put up independently of the Governor forum coverage.

GOP Governor Candidates Coming to Tifton

Six of the seven GOP GAGOV candidates will be in Tifton tomorrow for a “round robin” meet and greet hosted by the Tift Area Tea Party Patriots.

Austin Scott, Eric Johnson, Karen Handel, Ray McBerry, Nathan Deal, and John Oxendine are all scheduled to be at the event at the Tifton Conference Center (15 RDC Rd) from 4p-6p tomorrow.

According to the email I got yesterday,

Eric Johnson Comes to Sasser

Weds night, I had the pleasure of seeing former State Senator and current GAGOV candidate Eric Johnson again, this time at a fundraiser at Spytown Farm in Sasser.

Attendance at the event was about the same size crowd as I am used to seeing – I counted 26 at one point, but a few more arrived after that and I’d be willing to allow that up to around 35 people were there. Obviously, with this being on a working farm – and in a working barn, no less (but a VERY nice one!), the crowd was mostly agriculture based. But for those that don’t know it, don’t let “agriculture based” give you any ideas of country bumpkin rednecks in overalls. These businessmen were dressed in pretty much the same attire I’ve seen at every event I’ve been to thus far – meaning mostly polos and slacks, with some in jeans and some in full-on suits.

RE: Ox Is Imploding

Late last night, after I got home from buying my first ever truck from the great folks over at Ford Town (2006 Ford F-150 Triton XLT), I got an email from the Ox campaign that basically wanted me to look at EVERYONE’s numbers over the three polls in question – they specifically mentioned Handel and Deal, though I’m expanding this to look at everyone’s numbers.

Jason has a great table over at GeorgiaLegislativeWatch.com (where I’ll once again be helping him out once the General Assembly starts back) with all the polling data, including the Rasmussen polls in question, which is specifically what I am looking at here.

Another Weekend, Another Straw Poll

Saturday, Oglethorpe County was the site of the latest battle for the week’s bragging rights. Amidst what was apparently some pretty heavy rain, the Oglethorpe and surrounding county GOPs got together and hosted a Low Country Boil. Food and politics, always a good combination!

Peach Pundit has the results, so here’s some basic analysis on each of the statewide races:

Eric Johnson to Resign from State Senate?

Buzz Brockway and Erick Erickson over at Peach Pundit are saying that State Senator Eric Johnson has a “major announcement” tin about 45 min and that said announcement will be that he is resigning from the State Senate.

Jeff Is Running for Governor

Did I get your attention?

I am actually running for Leesburg City Council, but there is another Jeff in this State that has thrown his hat in the ring for Governor – making him the 7th Republican to do so. That particular Jeff is State Senator Jeff Chapman (R-Brunswick).

Chapman is most known for his staunch opposition to efforts by many under the Gold Dome to redevelop Jekyll Island. Because of this stance and others, he is not popular with Gold Dome leadership, and this has allowed him to claim a justified “maverick” label. Apparently, he also has a perfect score from the Republican Liberty Caucus (the “libertarian” wing of the GOP).
