WALB is reporting that the Dougherty County School Board has voted to hire Dr. Joshua Murfree in a 4-3 vote. I leave it to you to figure out who voted which way. When it comes to the Dougherty Count School Board Fab Four, nothing seems to surprise me much. Probably the biggest shock about the Albany Herald report in this morning’s paper is that it’s just so blatant it’s ridiculous. For those that missed it, it turns out that Anita Williams-Brown received a letter of recommendation from Dr. Joshua Murfree for a principal’s position I guess that’s what they mean by “what goes around comes around”, don’t you think? Continue reading See? What goes around really DOES come around Yesterday, we learn that five of six candidates for the school superintendent pulled their names from consideration. The sixth candidate is Dr. Joshua Murfree, who has been…well, let’s say…less than well received. Frankly, I can’t say I blame the other finalists. Continue reading Do you blame them from pulling out? Despite some of the members’ best efforts, the names of all finalists for the Dougherty County School Superintendent post being vacanted by Dr. Sally Whatley will be released as a result of reaching an agreement with local media outlets. The board agrees to release the names of three finalists, of a possible six. Now, was that so hard? Continue reading School Board to release names As if they didn’t have enough on their plate, the Dougherty County School System is embroiled in yet another whammy. WALB is reporting that a state audit is “questioning the integrity” of the Criterion Referenced Competency Test, or CRCT. While there are no formal accusations of cheating, there is some concern over the number of questions where answers were erased and changed. As if the Dougherty County School System didn’t have enough going on. So, a funny thing happened on the way to hiring a new superintendent. The School Board managed to unite two television stations and the largest local news paper on one single issue and get their butts named defendant in a lawsuit. Go them. Continue reading Some thoughts on School Board lawsuit The Dougherty County School Board has found itself on the wrong side of a lawsuit, one filed by WALB, WFXL, and the Albany Herald. The School Board’s own attorney, Tommy Coleman, has said that the Board broke the law by not releasing the names of all the “finalists” despite there actually having been several others besides current pick Joshua Murfree. This could delay Murfree’s hiring significantly. With their knowingly illegal acts yesterday, the School Board drove another nail in the coffin for Albany and Dougherty County as far as many people are concerned. For the record, I’m one of them. Maybe it’s just me, but until we find people who are qualified for office, we will never get out of the mess we’re in. Continue reading DoCo School Board Antics…enough reason to leave town. Dougherty County Schools are experiencing a budget crunch. Frankly, it’s not that surprising when you think about it. School systems are primarily funded through property taxes, and property ain’t such a hot commodity these days. School Board Chairman David Maschke offered a lot of proposals recently in an effort to spur discussion about how to save money. First, my hat’s off to you Mr. Maschke. It’s nice to see someone who’s elected to office not try and snatch more of our hard earned dollars here in Dougherty County. |
