The Albany Journal has a piece on their website, and presumably in their paper this week, about how Albany City Manager Al Lott may be finally being shown the door, possibly as early as the City Commission meeting today. It’s about time. Continue reading Al Lott outta here?

I guess it was all just to much. Seven hours into jury deliberations, Buie changes his plea to guilty in what has been described as a “teary-eyed” confession to Judge Denise Marshal. As a result he gets a year in jail, has to pay $5000 in restitution, can’t work for a government entity again, and is banished from Dougherty County.
It’s not close to enough, but it beats what looked like was going to happen. Continue reading Buie verdict aftermath

The one questionable piece of evidence in the whole Buie-gate fiasco was the recanted affadavit by Nicole Brown. After all, that was the piece that launched the whole investigation, and with Brown claiming that she was coerced into giving it, there was a shroud of doubt. But Brown’s testimony Wednesday in the trial of Don Buie shed light on the whole situation.
And yep. Buie’s screwed. Continue reading Buie trial takes interesting turn

Poor old Don Buie. I suspect that few are looking forward to January 1 more than he is. I mean, he went from King of the Mountain to living in a jail cell in 2009, so I’m sure he’s confident that 2010 can’t get any worse. But 2009 just did, with his attorney’s bid for a change of venue kicked out of court, the judge saying that media coverage hasn’t biased the pool of potential jurors.
Yeah, it’s been a rough year. Continue reading Buie’s having a rough year, ain’t he?

Yesterday, Dougherty Superior Court Judge Denise Marshall set a hearing for ousted ADICA CEO and former downtown manager Don Buie as to whether or not his trial should be held here in Dougherty County or elsewhere. The argument, more than likely, is that Buie can’t get a fair trial in Albany due to the publicity.
Have the trial here, there, or anywhere. Guilty is guilty. Continue reading Buie to be tried in Dougherty County?

WALB is reporting that bond has been denied to former downtown manager Don Buie. The judge apparently denied bond because he considers Buie a flight risk, something Buie’s attorney has denied repeatedly by citing Buie turning himself in. Of course, he took his sweet time in actually doing it too…but that probably seemed irrelevant.
