More parallels between now and Atlas Shrugged

Yes, I’m on an Atlas Shrugged kick. I just finished reading it for the third time the other night, so everything is fresh in my head. Besides, it’s more timely now than in 1957 when it first came out. While the book itself is unique in that everyone who reads it seems to get something else out of it, it’s pretty straight forward about it’s ideas regarding the economy and government. Where’s John Galt when you need him?

For those of you who may not know, I’m a big Atlas Shrugged fan.  When I first read it, I was convinced that Ayn Rand had taken the ideas to a ridiculous extreme.  Frankly, I couldn’t imagine a real person saddling more and more regulations on any industry and still say with a straight face that they believed in a free market.  I couldn’t imagine newsmen saying, again with a straight face, anything that would stifle what the journalist felt was the truth.

Listening To The People?

On April 15, 2009, hundreds of thousands of Americans literally took to the streets to protest the federal government.  The entire staff of SWGA Politics hit the tea parties, with Bill Waller serving as co-organizer of the Albany Tea Party and I as a speaker.  Jeff was conspicuous at the Leesburg Tea Party as well.  This was, in my opinion, one of the finest moments in American History.  It was the system of free speech at work.
