How is it heartless?

Most of the readers of this blog have been called a lot of things. We can easily shrug off the un-American charge. Both sides love throwing that one around, so it’s easier to ignore. But another charge that gets blasted this way is “cold” or “callous”, though usually they’re in tandem. We’re called that alot, and not just on health care.

Libertarians such as Jeff and myself are generally opposed to any and all wealth redistribution schemes. Welfare, social security, “universal” health care, any of them. And that’s how we get hit over and over again. But how is it we’re called heartless? Continue reading How is it heartless?

Is A Sign Ordinance The Best Idea?

As we find ourselves even deeper in this horrible economic climate, the City of Albany is striving to help us, it’s beloved citizens, by doing what?  Ah yes, penalize small businesses because their signs are a “distraction”.  Yeah, that makes sense.

You see, as we find companies moving out like Merck and Cooper Tire have recently done, we need our small businesses more and more.  A sign ordinance like the City of Albany is currently enforcing does nothing more than target those small businesses with regulations that serve no other purpose.  So much for sensible government.

No Matter Who’s Fault, We’re Stuck

The President has said that this isn’t his deficit, because he inherited this mess. To some extent, he’s right. However, it is most definitely his deficit, because he’s the President if nothing else. Today, MSNBC is reporting that the deficit will top $1.8 Trillion. If that sounds like a big number, keep in mind that it’s more than four times last year’s record deficit. That basically means that the United States will borrow nearly 50 cents for every dollar, or about 1/3 of the budget.

President Obama has said repeatedly that this isn’t his deal, that he inherited this.  Oh how this makes me long for the days of Harry Truman, which I wasn’t even alive for.  Mr. Obama, the buck stops with you.  Frankly, the American people don’t care who’s fault it is right now, they just want out of this mess.  Me?  I care more about the idea of deflecting blame than anything else.
