For the first time in the 200+ year history of the State of Georgia, a black man will be on the General Election ballot as a candidate for Governor, and a female of any race will be on the General Election ballot as a candidate for Lt Governor.
It wasn’t the increasingly old and white Republican Party (which has neither running for either office, though it does have females running in two races – Governor and Insurance Commissioner – and a black man running in one race – Labor Commissioner) that did this.
It wasn’t even the typically more “diverse” Democratic Party (which has several black candidates running, and will be the SECOND Party in Georgia history to nominate a female Lt Governor candidate) that did it.
No, it was the Party TRULY committed to ensuring equality of opportunity, free of any governmental restrictions of any kind, for ALL. The Libertarian Party. When LP-Georgia qualified these two historic candidates, it also made Party history by fielding its first-ever full statewide slate.
The Republican Party has long abandoned its mantra of fiscal conservatism – sure they still TALK about it, but one only need to look at 6 years of GOP leadership both Nationally and in Georgia to realize that even when the GOP has total control, nothing is done to restrain the growth of government and protect individual liberties. The Libertarian Party, meanwhile, has never given up on its desire to ACTUALLY do what the GOP talks about doing but never acts on: actually restrain government growth to population + the rate of inflation (at a bare minimum – most of us would like to cut out so much of the waste that has crept in over the decades), along with passing transparency laws to ensure that every citizen knows where every penny of their tax dollars is going.
The Democratic Party has long talked about its “diversity” and “tolerance” while passing laws that permanently cripple the already broken and bruised. The Libertarian Party, meanwhile, works to actually help the broken and bruised, and our Governor candidate is a prime example. John Monds has worked inside his community on illiteracy, Habitat for Humanity, and other projects designed to help those who need a hand up – and not just when a camera is rolling, but on a continual basis over several years.
The fiscal conservatism that the GOP long abandoned, combined with the genuine social tolerance the Democratic Party long abandoned, all covered with an absolute adherence to a mantra of individual liberty. Truly, is there any better way to run a government in the 21st century?
The Libertarian Candidates for Statewide Office – the ONLY candidates already qualified to run in November – are:

David Chastain, Secretary of State
Don Smart, Attorney General
Kira Willis, State School Superintendent
Kevin Cherry, Agriculture Commissioner
Shane Bruce, Insurance Commissioner
