As if Ray McBerry couldn’t go off his rocker any more, there’s this quote that Jim Galloway of the Atlanta Journal shares this tidbit from our favorite candidate this past weekend:
“In the last month, I’ve found out why good people rarely get involved in politics anymore. I’ve had more lies said about me in the last month than I’ve had in my entire life of 42 years.
“And I’m here to tell you today that the liberal media, including our esteemed moderator today, can say whatever he wants to say about this businessman and daddy that’s running for governor here in Georgia. But I’m running because I have the same principles as our founding fathers.
“And I wear it as a badge of honor to be the strongest conservative in this race, and that’s why the liberal media wants us out of this race. It ain’t gonna happen.”
emphasis all mine
Karen Handel’s response is on the AJC site as well.
McBerry is also quoted there as saying:
“It’s absolutely being brought up for political retaliation. But I can tell you as a conservative, as a Christian, and as a daddy, I’m not getting out of this race.”
Well, since SWGAPolitics.com is the site that really stirred this whole mess up, I guess we’re the so-called “liberal” press?
Well, if you mean classical liberal, then I can go along with the term applying, but I seriously doubt that McBerry meant anything of the sort. Instead, he’s been trying to cover all this as a vicious attack designed to knock him out of winning the GOP primary, a primary he hasn’t got a hope in hell of actually winning in the first place.
McBerry is accused of some morally reprehensible things, things that he knew better than to do. Even by his own admissions, he had pathetically poor judgement involving the girl, and that barely touches on the accusations that it wasn’t nearly as innocent as McBerry alleges.
But remember folks, in a world where things don’t go like you want, just classify someone as a bugaboo and blame them for everything. After all, that’s what good old Ray McBerry does.
For the record Ray, we ain’t liberals here. We opposed things like Obamacare and Cap&Trade. We’re pro gun. We’re pro-free market and anti-collectivism. Sounds like rabid liberals to you, huh? So why don’t you do yourself a favor and drop out of the race before you say something even dumber? OK?
Haha! John McCain has those same views too, instead of the “cap and tax”. But…I do consider him to be progressive or liberal. I’m sure you could be too! Especailly since you have this hatred for the only canidate thats not a middle of the road republican.
Ray McBerry Press Release May 3rd:
http://www.georgiafirst.org/candidate/pr_ray_mcberry_responds_to_recent_attacks.shtml
I think that he singling you and Jeff out for the future “libel” cases. Might want to start hiding any cash that you got from “folks” under the nearest mattress.
Oh yeah, I’m shaking in my boots. And, since you seem unable to read anything that doesn’t pertain to McBerry, we’re Libertarians, so him being a Republican of any stripe doesn’t really impress us to much around here. That’s OK though, I don’t expect much from McBerry supporters anymore.
And really, why would anyone pay us to bash McBerry? The 2% he’ll get in the primary is hardly worth the effort.
Libertarian, you? I wouldnt have guessed with all this “factual” McBerry bashing.
I’m guess you think everyone is free to be led by the “one-sided” argument.
So, what is the going rate to bring a family up with a 7 year scandal?
I’m sure glad that you have taken it to those other canidates that show no libertarian triats. What? You havent? Even with all the crap on the “Ox”?
You havent even talked up Monds. Yes, I stop by everynow and then to see the gossip.
Regardless 50,000(12%) primary votes last election McBerry is on task to be the top two this primary election. Not to mention didnt hear any slander last time he ran, only when he become a contender this time around.
Spend your money wisely or check with Jeff because he might be holding out on you. Take care Bud!
“Question with Boldness”- T.J.
Hey, it’s a blog. Don’t like what we say, the go somewhere else. But we presented the story we were given. The fact is that Jeff did try and get McBerry’s story. Not a word back from him.
As for Oxendine, you really are showing that you don’t pay any attention to this blog. Oxendine was hit by Jeff on a daily basis for a while there. Since then, he hasn’t done some of the more blatant things. You’ve also missed the hammering Jeff gave Karen Handel. You missed the story on the front page blasting Roy Barnes.
Boy, you’re not that swift, are you?
As for Monds, no, we haven’t done a lot on him yet. So what?
As for this supposed “money”, you’re as delusional as McBerry. His 12% was in a practically empty field. He’s polling in the low single digits if he’s even listed in the first place. Yeah, he’s a real threat to the “big boys”.
So why don’t you go away now? This is private property on the internet, and I have no problem booting your butt if you make another accusation against Jeff and Myself. You can say it anywhere else you like, but not on my dime.
Ah…who was talking about Jeff? I was talking about Tom. So heres an another accusation that i’ll present. Learn to calm down when you read because it makes you look as if you can not.
Anyway maybe you can answer this before you shoot down my “freedom of speech” like you speak of in your other blog. What field was empty last primary? I would think your delusional because the Tea Party is almost 100% backing McBerry in every county(that has one). The Tea Party wasnt around last election…hmmm, single digits? 42% of all statics are made up.
But regardless with the made up facts by both you and Jeff and the family you brought on the site. What do you actually have agianst McBerry? Nothing that can be proven.
So anyway something is going on here and I have a hunch. Its all about the parties. In your case the LP. Hope I didnt hurt your feelings Tom, my gosh its just a blog.
You’re accusing me of not being able to read, and yet you’ve missed all the other candidates who we’ve written about? That’s funny.
As for “made up facts”, I have taken what information I’ve been presented and drew an opinion, same as you. They’re different, and that’s cool. But to accuse anyone of getting paid to bash someone like McBerry that only his followers really take seriously? You’ve got to be kidding me. He pulled in that 12% when he was the only person challenging Perdue, and even a quick web search backs that up. A lot of that was people voting against Perdue. Now the field is much more crowded. Don’t expect it to get that high again.
As for your attempts at wit, you should stop. You just look silly.
As for “free speech”, I’m also a big proponent of property rights. I pay for this patch of internet after all. No one was talking about filing a lawsuit against YOU, just telling you to do it on someone else’s patch of the internet.
Jimmie:
I have a 7 page handwritten letter from Ray McBerry himself admitting to many of the allegations. I have a restraining order issued against McBerry days after said letter was sent. I have Ray McBerry sending out a campaign email days before any of these allegations were public knowledge. Those are things that either Ray or a Judge wrote. Are you SURE you want to claim I “made them up”?
And I’ve never received one red cent for anything I’ve written, even in the Albany Journal or any other newspaper, much less on this site.
Last I heard Tea Parties didn’t support any candidates or give recommendations. I think the people you are talking about are simply groups of republicans trying to call themselves patriots!
Wow Jeff! Very manly of you putting my name out like that, I feel like i’ve been threatened.
Make sure you put my last name and e-mail addy next post.
Great investigative journalism for a change!
I love for you to send that 7 page letter you have. Or is there a way I can already see it online???
@Tom: Agian…*sigh*…I was talking about you. But yes I was wrong you did talk about ol’ Roy. You sure have out-smarted me.
@Tim: Yes I know how the majority feel about Tea Partiers on this site but regardless those who tend to follow in the footsteps of the Tea Party are those who support McBerry. I know you wanted me to clarify myself.
@Jeff and Tom: Listen there was humor in my accusations, so therefore there is nothing to back it up. I still dont rule it out because its real shady how the facts or lack there of have surfaced…thats my opinion.
Secondly, please let us(your blog) know if there is a slander suit agiasnt you. If there is one with no way to disprove the truth from the other, then what he has claimed to be may be a lie.
I’m opened minded when it comes to the gossip and politics because sometimes you cant tell if your being lied too.
Jimmie:
a) I have no way to know if you’re using an alias or not, so I simply chose to believe you are. It is fairly common here, btw.
b) Look for the post “The Name and The Letter”. It has the 7 page letter in PDF form attached. As to the exact timeline and how these allegations surfaced, I’ve been thinking for about a week I needed to write about that, and I think it will be my post tomorrow morning – HOPEFULLY I will have time to write it then. If not, I’ll work on it tomorrow evening and try to get it up then, after Council meeting.
The letter is nothing out of the ordinary Jeff. I’ve heard all of this without even seeing the letter. What “allegations” other than trying to smooth things over with Ronnie and Rachel are there to accuse?
I’m laughing so hard right now because i thought you might actually change my mind.
Please tell me there is more evidence than this 7 page letter because I feel like I didnt get my moneys worth.
Jimmie: That letter – in McBerry’s own handwriting – confirms MANY of the details from Rachel’s story. In it, McBerry BEGS for forgiveness 7 times in the first paragraph alone!
BTW: Ever realize how hard it is to change the mind of a cultist?
A large number of tea partiers in our county were volunteers for Ray until they heard him say he would pledge to the Georgia flag but not the American flag. After that, they started doing research on him and the League of the South, and most of them (including one of the tea party group organizers) began trying to educate others on the problems with McBerry.
So, even before all of this other stuff became public, his insistence on not pledging to anything manmade…except the Georgia flag…turned a lot of people off. You can dispute this if you like, but I was actually at the meeting where he said this, and I am personally acquainted with the man who asked him if he pledged to the flag (after observing him not participating at the beginning of the meeting.) My only regret is that I didn’t videotape his entire presentation, but I didn’t think it was worth my time.
@Taxpayer: I first heard Mcberry at a Valdosta Tea Party held meeting and he went along with the pledge.
@Jeff: He’s telling “Ronnie” he is sorry for meeting with his daughter which lasted (paraphrase)”5mins but closer to 3mins”. He also acknowledges that “Mike” pulled in behind him and that he even talked to him on the road before Rachel was there.
He even goes a far as mentioning that he didnt want “Ronnie” to feel like he hurt or molested his daughter, which probally means thats what was being thrown around the church at the time.
So, how does this incrimnate Ray McBerry? Why is it when you lay it all out the only way to make the accusations true or feasable is when your grabing at straws?
Keep looking for dirt in between the lines.
I made my user name not believeing the accusations and still after the conversation and reading past converstations nothing here 100% puts him somewhere other than bad judgement on having a relationship outside of the church.
This reminds me of the older women at church that turn some misunderstanding into a full blown gossip war.
I may be in your eyes a cultist but your using people’s lives and name to propel yourself and you should be ashamed.
If the family was so bent on taking Ray down they should have went to the hearing. They should have done everything in their legal power to take him down. But they didnt and 7 years later here it is again and btw did you know Ray Mcberry was running for Gov for the second time?
If you want a story see where this originated and where the money goes.
No response needed, take care.
Jimmie:
This story originated when Ray McBerry sent out a campaign email admitting that he had been accused of having a sexual or otherwise improper relationship with “underage girls” – his exact words. Before that time, NO ONE knew anything publicly.
When I began working on the story based off that email and Jim Galloway’s reports on that email, Rachel eventually contacted me, first through the comments here and later through the Google Voice number on the Contact Us page.
Also around that time, several other people that I believe to be completely independent from each other began contacting me with what they knew and/or had heard. Based on this, I was able to piece together quite a bit – MUCH of which I have not been able to confirm sufficiently to publish, other bits of which I HAVE confirmed, but choose not to publish because they involved victims that I know of, but who have not made an effort to contact me or anyone, and I am respecting their privacy.
ZERO money has changed hands on any of this, to my knowledge. And I’m not just referring to this site, but I am stating to my ENTIRE knowledge – every bit of knowledge I have of this story – ZERO money has changed hands in exchange for ANY of it.
Sorry, foreheadsmack, Ray talked about not pledging to the U.S. flag in his initial press release that started all of this scrutiny.
At our meeting, he stood respectfully, but did not say the pledge. When he was asked about it during a Q&A, he said something like, “my religion says I don’t pledge to anything manmade.” That would have been fine if he would have stopped there…but he kept going, and said, “But I will pledge to the Georgia flag.”
The head of our tea party group started doing research and now is adamantly opposed to McBerry, in fact, thinks he’s a kook. It was all the League of the South stuff that did it. This other stuff just seals the deal that he is unfit for office.
