I called the Commissioner’s office about 9:30AM today to report a potential health risk, caused by a company that services the food production industry. At 2PM today I received a call from Commissioner Tommy Irvin telling me I needed to apologize to his administrative assistant. Only in Georgia government can one get a call back from a State Constitutional Officer about bad manners rather than an issue that is putting the residents of GA, FL and AL at risk.
Mr Irvin refused to send an investigation team to a plant that supplies unsanitary linens to peanut mills, pecan processors, bars and restaurants across the Southeast, clearly something under the arm of agriculture.
Mr, Irvin I gave you an ultimatum on the phone either protect the citizens of Georgia or turn your back and you sir chose to turn your back!
So what was the potential health risk pertaining to???
Let’s just say rats and cockroaches roam the same floors along with everything you can find in a roll-out mat. When these rags towels mops hit the floor they continue the path straight to the restaurant, bar or processing facility. Not to mention rags hung wet overnight and over the weekend to mold and mildew prior to going to customers. Really kind of sickening.
Sounds about like the average greasy spoon, amirite? Jokes aside, that is interesting that they ignored your complaint.
Far from it, this is an industrial laundry supposed to be providing “clean linens” (bar mops, wash clothes, aprons etc.) to the food and food production industries.
You don’t say if you offered any proof or if your occupation is such that the Department of Agriculture would recognize you as a credible source. There are after all about 10 million folks in the State so I’m not surprised they didn’t send a swat team out on your say so alone. In any event Tommy is way past concerning himself over your ultimatums.
Interesting point is he never ask any questions. He just wanted me to apologize to his secretary. For being an assertive citizen with a problem. Pretty sure a BS in agriculture qualifies my findings. It is all against the health code but on a grand scale.
Would try the local Health Department. It’s convoluted which agency has jurisdiction (there are several others possible, too) but they are usually helpful.
I went to 3 different agencies, none of them wanted to investigate, 2 pointed the finger back at ag. It is no wonder the Peanut of America happened in GA, no one knows what they do, but they are all quick to point fingers to a different agency.
