The picture here is from the anti-victim press conference today hosted by the Georgia Talibaptist Association (aka the “Christian” Right, and specifically -from Jim Galloway – the Georgia Christian Alliance, the Georgia Christian Coalition, Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Coalition, and the Georgia Baptist Convention).
There are a couple of things interesting about it:
1) Per Ernie Suggs at AJC’s Gold Dome Live, there were 500 people at a rally earlier in the day in SUPPORT of Senator Renee Unterman’s bill decriminalizing prostitution for those too young to consent to the act of prostitution. There are NINE people in this photo of the anti-victim press conference. That is more than a 50-1 advantage in SUPPORT of the bill.
2) Among the members of the Georgia Talibaptist Association, if you look to the right of the statue, you will see a man in a dark suit with some kind of light blue/green shirt. That man? Insurance Commissioner and Governor Candidate John Oxendine – the ONLY GAGOV candidate I’ve seen openly supporting making criminals out of victims in this regard.
The Georgia Talibaptist Association has shown with this bill that it is more interested in controlling you than showing you the way to God. What I find incredibly ironic about this is that if that the GTA would focus more of their efforts on reaching people for Christ and less of their efforts on worldly politics, maybe there wouldn’t be as much prostitution – of any age – to begin with.
I am not sure I am following? Is is it good or bad John was there? I dont know anything on this topic
David:
Ox is showing that he intends to govern as a Theocrat – a very bad thing indeed. The Georgia Talibaptist Association clearly cannot follow simply logic:
If you are not old enough to consent to sex, you are not old enough to consent to getting paid for sex.
Instead, they rely on their version of morality and insist that everyone follow their religion, regardless of whether the person actually believes their religion or not.
Check out the other post I wrote Saturday (linked to on the word “bill” in this post), or even the stuff Jason Pye and Peach Pundit have written on it today.
Wow, does John Oxendine have no shame? I met with Rene and discussed this bill several weeks ago. There is no hidden agenda in this bill. It allows minors the chance to seek help from their forced entrapment into prostituton to seek help without the threat of being arrested. Rene has worked with others to provide shelter and safety to girls as young as 10 years old to keep them from being raped and beaten by their pimps. Please contact Rene at her senate office if you want the real story on this bill. John Oxendine has lowered hinself to even a newer low to try and stop this bill. He and the likes of Nancy Schaffer deserne one another. What a bunch of disgusting pigs. Thanks for giving your readers the real facts on this issue Jeff. Child prostitution is growing at an alarming rate in Ga. Unfortunately the convention industry is also trying to undermine Renes efforts as well. Please ask your representaves to support this bill.
For those who want a better understanding of why this bill is necessary, I suggest the documentary Very Young Girls. This bill has nothing to do with a stance on prostitution as a whole. It’s simply a way to keep young girls who are forced into prositution from being turned into criminals from something they’re forced into doing in the first place.
