Sam Olens Becomes First Attorney General Candidate To…

call for an examination of Obamacare’s constitutionality.

He joins Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott and others in calling for an examination of Obamacare’s constitutionality in light of a deal made with a Nebraska US Senator to exempt that State from having to bear Obamacare’s financial burden.

Here’s the press release:

SAM OLENS MAKES OFFICIAL REQUEST TO GEORGIA AG TO REVIEW CONSTITUTIONALITY OF H.R. 3590

For Immediate Release : Cobb County/December 23, 2009 – Cobb County Commission Chair and candidate for Attorney General Sam Olens has submitted a letter to Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker requesting that he join with the Attorney Generals of South Carolina and at least six other States, to review the constitutionality of H.R. 3590, The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

With the final deal assuring Senator Ben Nelson’s vote, all newly eligible Medicaid enrollees from Nebraska would be permanently treated differently than those from the other 49 States. While Medicaid is a joint federal-state program, the Nebraska Compromise provides for a permanent exemption to his State alone. Said provision appears to violate the U.S. Constitution as all states would not be uniformly treated the same with this new tax.

“It is a felony to buy votes in this country. That same prohibition must apply to our legislators. All legal options must be considered and applied to stop this outrage.

“Georgians cannot afford the many new taxes associated with this bill, let alone a special provision that lets us pay for citizens of another state, stated Olens.

Another Democratic Secretary of State Candidate Responds to Handel’s Resignation

The following is the press release we received today from Michael Mills, another Democratic candidate in the Secretary of State race.

“We commend Secretary of State Karen Handel’s decision to resign her current office to seek the Republican nomination for Governor of Georgia. Elected officials must begin to place the interest of our citizens first, and not their own, at a time of mounting deficits, growing unemployment and uncertain futures.

The decision also calls to an end one of the most partisan and draconian Secretary of State administrations in the history of Georgia, twice rebuked by the United States Justice Department for illegally blocking access to the ballot box for eligible citizens.

Buie verdict aftermath

I guess it was all just to much.  Seven hours into jury deliberations, Buie changes his plea to guilty in what has been described as a “teary-eyed” confession to Judge Denise Marshal.  As a result he gets a year in jail, has to pay $5000 in restitution, can’t work for a government entity again, and is banished from Dougherty County.

It’s not close to enough, but it beats what looked like was going to happen. Continue reading Buie verdict aftermath

Announcing The Project

For the past month and a half or so, I’ve been mentioning this thing I called “The Project” on twitter and Facebook occassionally. I’ve told a few people what it is already, but I am ready now to officially unveil it.

The Project took quite a bit of work. First, I had to set everything up in a table which would eventually have nearly 121,000 individual data points. (120,944 to be exact). I manually entered the data for the first 26,000 data points. I found a way to automate the next 95,000, but even this was a time consuming process – just not anywhere near as time consuming as the first 26,000.

But why would I spend so much time entering data – on top of everything else I already do? Why did I deem it so important? What is The Project?
