On Karen Handel’s Resignation

As promised, I do have a bit of commentary on Karen Handel’s resignation as Secretary of State.

First, I agree it was the honorable thing to do – had she done it when she entered the race about 9 months ago. Had she resigned as Secretary of State then, she wouldn’t have had to deal with complaints among the State Ethics Board from the former GAGOP chief lawyer (who now works for the same firm as John Oxendine’s defense team) about her ability to perform her official duties while campaigning. She also wouldn’t have had to worry about complaints of campaigning while officially on the clock with the State of Georgia, or violating Federal law in a campaign ploy.

Democratic SOS Candidate Response to Karen Handel Resignation

We just received the following release from Gary Horlacher, a Democratic candidate for Secretary of State, in response to Karen Handel’s announcement this afternoon that she is resigning her post as Secretary of State. Jeff will write his own thoughts later this evening or tomorrow morning.

Congratulations Karen Handel!
This is the first correct action you have taken since entering this office.

Ms. Handel’s mishandling of the Secretary of State’s office has gone way beyond incompetence. She crossed the misconduct line by inappropriately using this office to both foster her own political ambitions and to use her authority in the elections oversight process for her party’s political benefit. By stepping down, she not only provides herself with the much needed “flexibility” to continue raising campaign contributions for her gubernatorial campaign during the upcoming Legislative Session, but she also “ducks and dodges” any needs to be totally nonpartisan while conducting fair, objective and competent election oversight duties.

You want some objective analysis of her conduct of the functions of this office?

Hodges is absolutely clueless

While campaigning, staffers always fear that their candidate will say something stupid.  In some cases, it’s inevitable.  In others, it’s fixable.  In still others, it’s just proof of how out of touch a candidate really is.  What’s really amusing is when they couple a stupid comment, sometimes acceptable, with something that no one who knows them actually believes.

And that’s just what Ken Hodges did last week in Thomasville. Continue reading Hodges is absolutely clueless

At Least One Candidate Wouldn’t Be Running

under Republican Attorney General Candidate Sam Olens‘ proposed ethics reforms.

According to Bludgeon and Skewer, State Rep Hardie Davis still hasn’t paid $100 in ethics fines for failing to properly file required ethics disclosures regarding his current State House seat.
