It was bad when Tim Washington and Nicole Brown cut their deals to testify against Former Downtown Manager and ADICA CEO Buie in exchange for lighter sentences. Now, Buie’s problems just got worse with his wife Shanon agreeing to a plea bargin herself yesterday. In exchange for pleading guilty to three misdeamoners and agreeing to pay a $1,500 fine, Buie will testify against her husband.
Oh boy Don. This just can’t be good, now can it?
Regardless of how you feel about people cutting deals to testify in exchange for softer sentences, there’s little debate about how things actually work in our legal system. The testimony obtained this way can be damning to a defendant, and I suspect that this is no exception.
Shanon Buie’s escapades has been the stuff of legend though. Since the arrests were first made, she’s been fighting extradition from her home in North Carolina. The sudden shift is most likely based purely on the plea bargain offer from Dougherty County District Attorney Greg Edwards’ office, which probably would have come down last week with the offers for Washington and Brown.
Buie’s trial is set to begin Monday.
What is she going to testify to, she took ADICA money and didn’t do the work? Unless that money can physically be tracked back to Buie it is her word saying he coaxed her into taking the money, very hard to prove beyond a reasonable doubt with a fair and impartial jury… like we really expect him to get one of those in Albany!
