Answer: Unless You’re John Oxendine, You Don’t

Question: How do you defend a man accused of threatening to beat his wife?

Austin Scott didn’t. Karen Handel didn’t. Eric Johnson, Jeff Chapman, Nathan Deal, and Ray McBerry have yet to weigh in publicly on the issue. Heck, even the 100+ strong House Republican Caucus was prepared not to!

But John Oxendine actually defended a man accused of threatening to both physically beat his wife as well as use the considerable power he had as one of the three most powerful men in Georgia Politics to “track her down”.

Apparently, Oxendine doesn’t think threatening to beat your wife is a big deal. Or maybe it is the abuse of power that he doesn’t think is a big deal. Or heck, let’s be honest here: maybe he just doesn’t want people looking at politicians and abuse of power allegations. After all, they might start looking at him, and some of the rumors I’ve long heard from multiple sources might actually get some concrete evidence to prove them.

Even without the rumors though, we have at least three separate people – including another man’s wife and a 15 yo kid – that can attest to Ox’s intimidation tactics just within the past year. He claims he had “no knowledge” of $120,000 that magically appeared in his campaign account apparently from a single donor. He is known to lie about something as minor as poll numbers.

And now he is actually defending a man accused of threatening to beat his wife!

One thing I’ve long heard in politics: You can defend dang near anything, until a man beats his wife. But how do you defend a man who beats his wife (though Richardson is only accused of threatening to beat her)?

Answer: Unless you’re John Oxendine, you don’t.
