[UPDATED] Rome News-Tribune: Karen Handel a Conspiracy Theorist [ March 9, 2010 – 2:01 pm] by Jeff Posted in » 2010 Campaigns

I knew about this issue from twitter, but admittedly I’m a bit late on getting all the details. But trust the boys from Peach Pundit to avoid this one like the plague – it makes their girl look like… well, a paranoid conspiracy theorist.

Here’s what has happened:

Apparently, John Oxendine told the Rome Chamber of Commerce that he “fully supports” a highway most people here in South Ga have never heard of and probably never would hear of, but is a major agenda item of this group. It is the proposed “411 Connector” that basically extends US 411 from US 41 to connect to I-75 at Ga-20. (Roughly 5-10 miles or so across northern Cartersville.) Ox said “I am going to build that road if I am elected governor”. (Which brings up an interesting side question: How is Ox going to have time to personally build a road if he is trying to manage a State and go on fancy hunting and awards show trips every year?)

About a week later -and timed to coincide with a major ad campaign against this road from a maxed-out contributor to her campaign – Karen Handel questioned this road’s value and route, in language very similar to the ad from the major contributor.

Much has been said about the conflict between Lynn Westmoreland and John Oxendine, but this issue is showing some fracture lines between US Rep Phil Gingrey and Karen, with Gingrey telling the Rome News-Tribune this:

Chair of Senate Special Judiciary Committee Thinks Constitution Not Law?[ November 19, 2009 – 7:06 pm]by Jeff Posted in » Legislation, State

Not exactly.

I’m still waiting to get an .mp3 file of the audio in question – I made the call to request it after hours, and was told my source would try to get it for me tomorrow if at all possible – but here’s basically what happened:

Around 2:45pm this afternoon, Jenny Hodges put the following status on her Facebook page:

The DIRT BAGS ARE HERE, not in Washington. John Wiles needs to be immediately recalled for perjuring himself regarding his oath of office to uphold the Constitution. He’s in my district. Maybe I should unseat him. :-)

I inquired about what was going on, and was told that apparently Senator Wiles had said that the Constitution wasn’t law, as Jenny stated in another update where she said “Georgia Republican Senator John Wiles said moments ago in committee hearing: “The Constitution is not the law.”"

So I after work I made some calls and talked to some people. Obviously, tracking the General Assembly is something I genuinely enjoy doing, and I wanted to get to the bottom of this.

And just how do they expect to do that?[ November 19, 2009 – 8:00 am]by Tom Posted in » Local

As one of the ten poorest communities according to Forbes is hardly something to be proud of.  Granted, we made Forbes, but not in any way we would actually want.  Our poverty level is way, way to high and I know of no one who actually thinks this is a good thing.  The Albany Herald’s Editorial Board doesn’t think so either, but they seem to get a few things backwards.

The Editorial Board seems to feel that we have to address poverty first if we want growth in Albany, saying “If we want to improve our area’s work force and standard of living, if we want to attract new businesses and residents, the problem of poverty has to be addressed.”  Really?  Well…how in the hell do you think you can address poverty without growth first?
