State Representative Ed Rynders will have his bi-annual fundraiser tonight at 6:30pm at Oakland Lodge. Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives Glenn Richardson was scheduled to be the special guest, though no word as of yet on how Speaker Richardson’s announcement Friday impacts those plans – if at all.
I do know that at least one SWGAPolitics.com reader plans to attend, and I also plan to be there – with my wife planning on making a rare appearance at these events. Since this is an extremely short post, I’ll update it after the event with my usual post-event commentary.
[UPDATE]: So 48 hours ago I was riding over to the Oakland Lodge for State Rep Ed Rynders’ bi-annual fundraiser. I took my wife, and when we got there, Carlton had come in right after us, so the three of us walked in together. You can see his report on the evening here. There were about 75 people in attendance – I was told that Carlton had at one point counted 71, and I’m allowing that maybe he missed a couple, which I also do when I count – and since this was Rep Rynders’ event, obviously he was one of them! Mike Sabot was also there, as was State Rep (and GOP challenger to Sanford Bishop) Mike Keown, State Rep Jay Powell, and State Rep Carol Fullerton. What was interesting about Fullerton in particular is that she is a Democrat showing up to a Republican fundraiser, though it is speculated that this was a message of support to the Speaker, who did in fact show up. Others present included 4 of the 5 Lee County Commissioners (Dennis Roland was the only one not present), at least one Dougherty County Commissioner, and at least a few officials from local colleges.
Overall, it was an EXTREMELY nice event – honestly the fanciest I’ve yet attended. Lots of time to mingle with everyone, and I managed to speak to several people and introduce my wife to them. My wife said she had a blast and is looking forward to coming to more events with me, which is honestly a good thing as far as I am concerned. Rep Rynders spoke briefly and said that the General Assembly faces two choices come January: raise taxes or cut spending. He said they will NOT raise taxes, they WILL cut spending. When Speaker Richardson spoke, he said the same thing in that regard, along with the comments in Carlton’s article.
Jeff,
I spoke with Ed on Saturday and Richardson plans to still attend the fund raiser.
I wish I could go, I really want to support him. Unfortunately, I’m out of school today because I’m sick so I won’t be going anywhere tonight.
I hope you get to feeling better very soon Kyle. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to meet/work with Ed during the next year!
Jeff,
I was there too, but I arrived before the scheduled start and had to leave just as folks were getting there. It was my first time at the Oakland Lodge. A very nice venue! I hope Rynders did well.
cool! I got there at about 6:20 or so. He did very well from what I know. I don’t really have too much to base it on, but the numbers I was told certainly impressed me! It was also my first time at Oakland Lodge. The only thing I would recommend in the future is more lighting along the driveways in the parking area – got rather difficult trying to see to get out!
I was there as well. The crowd was the usual suspects and light. Ed’s solidly in place with no real opposition in sight so many that will support if needed didn’t bother to attend.
