Tifton Forum Question 1 – Education
This was – I believe – the only question answered by a single candidate, Eric Johnson. In this video, Johnson describes his views on education in Georgia.
“I want to be the Zell Miller of education in Georgia, but I’m going to be controversial about it just like he was with the HOPE scholarship.”
He then says that he listens to teachers more than administrators and acknowledges that teacher pay raises are going to be very scarce in this economic climate. He then launches into his pro-voucher speech briefly before ending with a comment about President Obama living in public housing in DC but sending his kids to private school.
Overall typical fare from Johnson on this subject, one of the ones he is most passionate about. One line that did get a chuckle from the audience was when he said that both of his kids were products of the public education system and one was a lawyer while the other was a preacher. Thus, he had one kid that could sue you and another that could save you.
