There’s no hope for Georgia it seems [ March 12, 2010 – 8:00 am] by Tom Posted in » 2010 Campaigns, Albany Dougherty County

Yesterday, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals decided that Ken Hodges had immunity from the legal ramifications of his actions in regards to the now infamous “Phoebe Factoids”.  No crimes were committed, and no crimes regarding thesending of the Factoids was ever alleged by any so-called victims, and yet Ken Hodges used his power to find out who was bloodying Phoebe’s nose in a public relations blitz.  And yet, according the the Appeals Court, Hodges was just “doing his job” as he keeps claiming.

So I guess we’re all screwed now. Read More …

If the City bought a lottery ticket[ November 16, 2009 – 8:00 am]by Tom Posted in » Albany Dougherty County

I was wondering, what would the City of Albany do if they won the lottery? I mean, since so many are enamored with how they haven’t raised taxes despite not doing a blasted thing to try and cut spending, I thought it might be an interesting idea to see what the City would do with a winning lottery ticket.  After all, they’re fiscally responsible, right?

The current Mega Millions jackpot is $17 million, so let’s use that as our basis.  Since they’re a governmental body, they don’t pay income taxes, so they would actually get to keep the whole amount, where as you and I wouldn’t.  Yeah, they suck.  So what would the City of Albany do with $17 million? RE: McElhannon Letter about Speaker Richardson[ November 16, 2009 – 7:41 am]by Jeff Posted in » Editorial, State

An open letter from Joel McElhannon regarding Speaker Richardson’s announcement was put up on PeachPundit, and there is a piece of it I wanted to discuss here:

The vast majority of arm chair activists, pundits, editorialists, and bloggers should do themselves a favor and just shut up.

You have never had the courage or ability to hold public office, so you have no concept of the pressures those with that courage and ability must endure. After dealing with legitimate constituent problems, crazy calls at all hours about dogs barking and obnoxious neighbors, election challenges, political forces pushing them in every direction, and the pressure all of this puts on their family, to have to endure your ridiculous rants and stunningly uninformed cheap shots is a special kind of hell. Spare us your hyperventilating.

Maybe I’m one of the exceptions when he says the “vast majority”. I certainly hope so. Because unlike a great deal of my counterparts both in blogging and within the Libertarian Party, I’ve done something over the last few months that I think qualifies me for an intelligent discussion on this. I actually ran for political office. Yes, I lost. I’ll even admit that I lost pretty handily. But my name WAS on a ballot, and that DOES separate me from the “vast majority of arm chair activists, pundits, editorialists, and bloggers”.

Local Events[ November 16, 2009 – 7:06 am]by Bill Waller Posted in » Local

What a time to live in the Albany area! Saturday the Lee County Republican Party had Mike Keown as their guest speaker. Mike is running for 2nd District in the US House of Representatives, and it was a chance to come out and meet him even if you were not a member of the Republican Party. If you missed it, there will be many other chances to meet Mike.

Another Mike was in town yesterday. Sherwood Baptist Church hosted Arkansas Governor and 2008 Presidential Candidate, Mike Huckabee. Governor Huckabee gave the sermon Sunday morning where he recounted the Christmas story. Following the sermon, he had books available that he personalized.

Tonight (Nov 16) there is an open invitation from the Speaker of the House, Glenn Richardson to attend a reception and fund raiser for Representative Ed Rynders (R 152). The reception is 6:30pm until 8:00pm at the Oakland Lodge. Rynders does not have many fund raisers. Checks can be made out to Friends of Ed Rynders.

Thursday of this week (Nov 19) there will be another meeting of the Benjamin Franklin Book Club. The book club will meet at 6:00pm at the Sunset Grill located in the Albany Mall. This month’s book is Culture of Corruption by Michelle Malkin. This too is an open invitation. Even if you have not read the book, come out for the fellowship.

Tifton Forum Question 1 – Education[ November 16, 2009 – 5:51 am]by Jeff Posted in » 2010 Campaigns

This was – I believe – the only question answered by a single candidate, Eric Johnson. In this video, Johnson describes his views on education in Georgia.
