Phoebe violates it’s own charter [ March 13, 2010 – 7:56 am] by Tom Posted in » Albany Dougherty County

The Albany Herald reports this morning of Margurete Burns, an 81 year old Albany woman, who suffered a head injury back in February. After being initially treated in Douglasville, Burns returned home. The next day, she got a phone call telling her to get medical treatment immediately. So, she went to Palmyra. The ER doctor apparently felt she needed a neurosurgeon, so he contacted Phoebe. They allegedly refused to take her, so she was airlifted to Macon.

Now, let’s ignore the fact that there are laws stating that hospitals can’t refuse to treat people, and go right to Phoebe’s own charter. Read More …

USS New York Gets Commissioned Today[ November 7, 2009 – 10:24 am]by Jeff Posted in » National

Today, the United States Navy will officially commission LPD 21, the USS New York.

It was built from steel from the rubble of the Twin Towers, and it is a Marine transport.

There is no better way to pay back the enemy than to land a bunch of US Marines on their doorstep.

Also, I just saw this on the USSNY website: Similar ships, the LPD-24 Arlington and LPD-25 Somerset, are being built with materials recovered from the Sept 11 Pentagon and Flight 93 sites, respectively. Each of these ships carries 699 Marines in normal mode, up to 800 in a surge. In other words, once these three Sept 11 LPDs come online, there will be 2,097 Marines they can bring to the enemy at a moment’s notice, and 2400 in surge form.

The Albany Herald Gets a New Website[ November 7, 2009 – 7:18 am]by Jeff Posted in » General

Just when I was starting to get used to the layout they had after their most recent change several months ago, they go out and redesign. They maintained their traditional color scheme and pop-up nav, but brought much of the site more inline with current web themes.

Overall, I think I’ll grow to like it.

But there is a slight problem for us… with this redesign, they are redoing all of their links… meaning many of our links out to them will probably no longer work. I plan on updating the 2010 Campaigns page today, but after that (which may take a while), I’ll need to get to fixing those links – and I could use your help.

If you don’t mind helping me, I would really appreciate it if you could go back as far as you wish into this site and put in the comments here any article that has a link to the Herald. Even if you don’t know how to put the actual link here, if you can give me the title of the post I can find it. I’ll then try to find the corresponding article on the Herald’s new site and fix it.

Thanks!!
