Speaking of Phoebe, they had a PEACH of an idea

You know, the “hospital with a heart” sure has a lot of guts. It takes a large amount of testicular fortitude to actually look at their employees, many of whom are barely paid a living wage (and many of whom don’t even get that), and ask for money. And yet, that’s what they did a couple of days ago.

An anonymous source who was forced to sit through this (she had no option to gnaw off her arm like a coyote caught in a trap) revealed the typical Phoebe cheerleading that has often made me wonder if one of the services Phoebe offers is mind control. There was discussion of how great this program was…blah, blah, blah. The program is called “PEACH”

At the root is that this is a program asking for money from it’s own employees, basically trying to get them to take what will effectively amount to a pay cut (this is a payroll deduction) but still require the employee to pay taxes on the full amount despite the fact that a lot of employees are living below the poverty line.  Now, this isn’t required of employees, but it takes a lot of nerve to do this.

Phoebe has employees who can’t pay their own medical bills…to PHOEBE, and they’re asking these same people to donate?  Seriously?  What’s next? Asking dialysis patients to donate a kidney?

Keep in mind that Phoebe has MILLIONS of dollars of cash reserves just sitting there. They don’t need the money, despite protestations of poverty. One report is that they have enough funds available to them to operate for over a year without a single paying patient. Now, let’s be honest for a second. Under what circumstances will that happen? It won’t. And yet, they’re sitting on these huge cash reserves and still ask employees to pay out of pocket?

The thing is, if this were indeed a cash-strapped hospital that was barely keeping the doors open, I’d be behind this 100%. In fact, I’d be urging people to donate through this blog. Honestly, I would. But this isn’t the case. This is a huge entity that is taking on the worst aspects of corporations and their rent-seeking behavior, and now wants the employees to turn a blind eye to the millions just sitting there and give part of their paycheck back to Phoebe.

Let’s just say that my source was furious when she brought this to my attention. Through me and this blog, she’s well aware of Phoebe’s antics in the past, and their financial status at present, and was forced to sit through this begging episode. I suspect she wasn’t alone.

Just remember that the “hospital with a heart” apparently has a lot of balls too.

Gee, I thought the hospital was named after a lady!

Uh, what was the money supposed to be used for?. Couldn’t grasp the planned use unless it is to support management’s “bonus retention program” or some other good use.

Sounds like they didn’t do a good job of selling this apple, uh PEACH.
