Yeah, remember that latest poll I talked about this morning? Honestly, I had just glanced over it and checked a few facts as it related to specifically that poll.
Tonight, I’ve been looking at that poll as it relates to other polls, specifically the two other polls by the same company – they release them every two months on the same day, meaning that the next one will be 3 days before Christmas.
Ox is imploding, and the proof is after the jump.

State School Superintendent Kathy Cox, who is running for re-election, was in town yesterday touring Albany schools, talking to the Albany Rotary club, and having a fundraiser at the Corner Cafe.
I was at the fundraiser, and it was a very successful event from what I could tell. A mostly different crowd from the GAGOV events I’ve been to, this one obviously having a mostly education-related crowd, including several officials from both the Lee County School System and the Dougherty County School Syste, including both Superintendents, at least a couple members of each School Board, and Dougherty County School Board Chairman David Maschke. Also in the crowd was Albany City Commissioner Roger Marietta, whom I got to meet for the first time, and Lee County Commissioner Rick Muggridge.

Let’s start off with Karen Handel and Voter Verification. You’ll remember that this is the issue of Handel’s office blatantly and flagrantly violating Federal law, specifically Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. First, she got sued over it, and the US Circuit Court of North GA told her that she had to follow Federal law and get US Department of Justice pre-clearance before implementing her proposed changes to voter data verification – which also included, in her proposed changes, citizenship verification. The Court’s decision was handed down last year, and Ms. Handel did as told and submitted her changes to the US DOJ for approval – and was denied. So she appealed the decision, and was recently denied again. Now, she plans to continue to waste taxpayer money on an appeal that she should rightfully lose. After all, the process she wanted to implement had a SIXTY PERCENT failure rate!

Yesterday, Palmyra Medical Center got some welcome news. A hearing officer with the Certificate of Need (CON) Appeal Panel upheld an earlier decision to grant Palmyra permission to delivery babies here in Southwest Georgia. This was following an antitrust lawsuit filed by Palmyra against Phoebe Putney where they claimed that Phoebe monopolized some basic services…like “birthin’ babies”.
Phoebe, of course, doesn’t seem to see the problem. Continue reading The health care market just got a bit more free

Monday, I had a chance to sit down and talk to Stephen Northington, who is running for the GOP nomination for Insurance Commissioner. The sad thing is that I had two recorders in my pocket, and forgot to turn either one of them on!
Northington is one of only two currently active insurance agents in the race (the other is John Mamalakis of Savannah, who I didn’t even know had filed until both Northington and Gerry Purcell, another candidate, brought him up), yet he will be the first to tell you that there is much more to the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Fire Safety than just insurance. One aspect of the office he has incorporated into his campaign is the need for more fire investigators and a lab for them. He believes that the role is both an administrator role overseeing the office, but also to assist in policy making via making recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly.

I missed the initial story. However, I’ve had a couple of sources let me know about it. Albany has made a Forbes list. Usually, this is a source of celebration. Unfortunately for us, this is the “America’s 10 Most Impoverished Cities” list. Though not to worry. Mayor Adams’ response was that he’s “not surprised”.
Doesn’t that just make us feel all tingly? Continue reading But at least this isn’t surprising

So says one of the Sterile Bull’s most ardent fan-boy worshippers on Facebook, Mike Harper.
I’ve been very careful to keep my campaign separate from this site, but Mike has decided to take the initiative to make my campaign a state-wide issue, so let’s talk about it a bit as it relates to John Oxendine, shall we?
My platform is simple and straightforward:
Lower Taxes.
Less Crime.
Less Traffic.
Smart Growth.
More Recreation.
Open Government.
I am also for faith and freedom.

For all the city’s bluster and efforts, claiming that downtown is essential for Albany to thrive, we find that two more businesses are closing their doors permanently. Al’s Super Subs and Two Scoops Gellato will soon be gone for good. Lack of foot traffic and a down economy seem to be the root causes.
Meanwhile, the city still believes that reshaping downtown into something it’s not is somehow even possible. On top of that, it thinks it’s essential. Personally, I want some of what they’ve been smoking. Continue reading Two more bite the dust

A couple of weeks ago, I attended the October meeting of the Lee County GOP. It was a very informative meeting with a speech and Q/A session with State Rep Ed Rynders, but there was also an event announced for this week, and I said I would give it as much publicity as this blog can generate:
State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox will hold a meet and greet fundraiser at the Corner Cafe on Dawson Rd in Albany this Thursday, Oct 22, at 5:30pm.
If nothing else, this will be a good chance to actually get out and meet the current and potential future Superintendent, and I encourage everyone to show up.

WFXL is reporting that former downtown manager, convicted felon, and currently indicted Don Buie has turned himself in to authorities. Buie is facing 17 charges, most of which are felonies. He’s expected to appear in court later today.
We will update this post as more becomes available. Continue reading Buie turns himself in
