Biting the hand that feeds

People.  Every day I become more and more disgusted with some of them.  There are still some good people, but it’s becoming harder and harder to focus on them and not the pieces of crap that seem to put forth so much blasted effort in pointing out that they don’t deserve to be urinated on if they were on fire.

And I’m not just talking about the scum that tries to lure two young boys into a van to commit unspeakable acts.  I’m talking about the everyday scum that will never make it on WALB or WFXL since there’s no actual crime committed.  These are much more common, and may well contribute more to society’s ills since they can’t, and shouldn’t, be punished legally.

Recently, I’ve been privvy to some rumblings that really have me disturbed.  Take for example the story of a man.  This man has been trying to help out someone who is less fortunate.  He has no obligation, but he’s been doing it anyways.  He buys groceries for a family with several young children.  He doesn’t have to.  He can’t even really claim it on his taxes.  He just does it.

His thank you?  A rumor that he has married his ex-wife just a couple months after his wife died simply because he has started talking to the mother of his son.

I’ve always believed, and statistics support, that Americans are the most generious people on the planet.  We give of ourselves and our resources to help people who need it.  While we may argue about taxes going for helping the needy, the majority of us will donate our time and money to help those same people out.

But charity should be appreciated.  Once upon a time, it was.  Today though, it’s not.  It’s an entitlement that comes from some place other than the government.  They still think they “deserve” it.  If you utter the word “no”, you’re called all kinds of things, even if you can’t really afford it.  It makes it harder for people to feel a desire to help, which has always been strong in this nation.

Perhaps I’ve been wrong.  Maybe charity isn’t the answer, but the problem.  By donating and helping those who can, but don’t, we have helped foster the entitlement mindset that is destroying this nation.  Maybe we shouldn’t help these people out at all, not just in government but through the private sector as well.  Leave these people to step up and earn their own.  Then, maybe they’ll appreciate what they were given more.

Frankly, I’m not entirely convinced that some people deserve the food they’ve been given.

some people don’t think before they run their mouth. Rumors hurt everyone involved. But in the case you are talking about, at least the kids had food and clothing. Now what is going to happen to them? Things do turn around on the people who start rumors.
