And now Nunn joins the list of the clueless
Sam Nunn. Former Senator. Former Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Once upon a time, one of the most powerful Democrats in the state of Georgia. Now, we can rank him among the clueless politicians in the state of Georgia who really don’t know who Ken Hodges really is with his endorsement of Hodges for Attorney General.
In a letter to Hodges, Nunn said “I am particularly impressed by your extensive background as District Attorney in Albany and by your remarkable record of dedicated and effective public service and civic engagement. It is also significant that the people who know you best from your leadership in the Albany area are vigorous and enthusiastic supporters.” Apparently, Nunn has also missed out that the most rabid of his opponents are also down here. We must remember that Hodges abused his power as District Attorney to prosecute Charles Rehberg and Dr. John Bagnato.
Hodges exploits are already well known down this way, but either Nunn doesn’t know about them, or he doesn’t care. I’d like to believe it’s the former, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it just didn’t matter to him. After all, Hodges has referred to the whole situation as “not a big deal” despite the lawsuit against him that the judge has refused to dismiss. Hodges feels like he’s above the law apparently, claiming immunity due to his position at the time. The judge disagreed, because Hodges crossed the line.
Now, he has yet another endorsement. Luckily for Georgia, it’s still early in the campaign season. However, Sam Nunn’s name will forever be tarnished by this endorsement. Nunn told Hodges in his letter

Nunn’s endorsement of Hodges was mentioned to a person who has known him since childhood. The response? “You must be kidding!”
But, Nunn has made “eye raising” endorsements before–think Obama.
Perhaps it is a matter of age. Or not knowing. Or political expediency. Or, perhaps in this case he really believes what he wrote. I don’t know.
Nunn served in the Senate for many years, and during that time, the media gave him glowing reports. But, as we are now learning, the media’s output often “ain’t been coming from no prayer book”. So, were those reports really complete and accurate during his tenure? Or are we now seeing the “real” Sam Nunn? Does make one wonder.
