Does Lee County Need a New Boat Ramp?

At the last Lee County Board of Commissioners meeting, my commissioner, Betty Johnson, did something I was very appreciative of when she motioned that the matter of a new boat ramp along Hwy 19 be tabled pending a public hearing at this week’s Commission meeting.

My problem is that my 2nd anniversary is Tuesday, so needless to say, I won’t be able to attend this meeting. The good news is that I know that at least three County Commissioners have read at least one or two posts on this site, so I’m going to put my own thoughts on the matter here and ask everyone that can possibly attend the Commission meeting to do so – whether you are for or against the ramp. It will be at 6pm Tuesday, October 13, in the Courthouse Annex building right next to the Lee County Courthouse.

Guns aren’t the problem, people are.

In the Sunday Herald, Metro Editor Carlton Fletcher takes on guns. He mentions a couple of high profile incidents where people with their legal firearms killed someone. These are horrible crimes, and my thoughts and prayers are with the families of the slain. But it’s important to note that while these two crimes are horrible in and off themselves, they don’t even begin to show the full impact of people legally carrying their firearms.
