Congressional Candidate Announces Over $100,000 Raised

Just over six weeks ago, State Representative Mike Keown (R-Coolidge), announced his candidacy for the 2nd Congressional District. Keown currently serves as the vice chairman of the Special Rules committee in the Georgia House. He also serves on the Education, Health and Human Services, and Natural Resources and Environmental committees.

Keown announced a press release yesterday that showed that he has already raised more than $100,000 in his bid to replace Congressman Sanford Bishop. According to a follow-up to the press release by 2nd District Republican Chairman, Don Cole, 95% of the money has come from Georgia’s 2nd District with only $250 coming from outside the state of Georgia.

But you don’t have any “real” solutions

Yesterday, I got into a discussion about a proposal for a “fat tax”. Most of the people involved were libertarian or libertarian leaning, but one was a rabid liberal. In the course of his arguments, he threw out an oldie but a goodie for liberals when dealing with us libertarians. “But you don’t have any real answers to these problems”.

So You Think You Want the Fair Tax?

Supporters of the Fair Tax like to say that there have been all kinds of reports by economists that say the Fair Tax will work, and they like to point to Florida, Tennessee, and Texas as examples.

The problem is, they never show you the reports. It is the mythical stack of papers with names that is pointed to but never shown.

Me? I’ve got a report that says it will NOT work in Georgia, and here it is.

This report points out that the State most similar to Georgia that has no individual income tax is actually Washington. But here’s the kicker: to get to a revenue structure the same as Washington’s, Georgia would actually have to INCREASE “hidden” and other taxes, some by more than 150 THOUSAND percent!
