Phoebe violates it’s own charter [ March 13, 2010 – 7:56 am] by Tom Posted in » Albany Dougherty County

The Albany Herald reports this morning of Margurete Burns, an 81 year old Albany woman, who suffered a head injury back in February. After being initially treated in Douglasville, Burns returned home. The next day, she got a phone call telling her to get medical treatment immediately. So, she went to Palmyra. The ER doctor apparently felt she needed a neurosurgeon, so he contacted Phoebe. They allegedly refused to take her, so she was airlifted to Macon.

Now, let’s ignore the fact that there are laws stating that hospitals can’t refuse to treat people, and go right to Phoebe’s own charter. Read More …

Ox Is Buying The Honors He Brags About[ October 31, 2009 – 2:37 pm]by Jeff Posted in » 2010 Campaigns

Earlier today, the Cobb County GOP and Cobb County GOP Women held some kind of Veteran’s Celebration. After the event, Ox put the following up on twitter:

Honor to sit at head table @ the Veterans Celebration hosted by the Cobb GOP & Cobb GOP Women in Marietta. There were true heroes present.

What he forgot to mention is that he paid $1,000 to sponsor the event, and the sponsorship came with a seat at said head table. It wasn’t an honor he earned in any way – he bought it. You see, the people this celebration was honoring served with honor and integrity, even if they never actually saw a battlefield. Ox uses his goons to bully 15 year old boys. He didn’t even belong in the same BUILDING as those veterans – as the organizers of the event well knew, hence the reason he had to BUY his seat of honor at the event.

Understanding Blogging[ October 30, 2009 – 8:00 am]by Tom Posted in » Local

Yesterday’s editorial by the Albany Herald contained a quote from Economic Development Commission Chairman Bobby McKinney where he makes reference to detractors “out-blogging” proponents of economic redevelopment. Yeah, it pissed me off. The full quote, from the October 25 article in the Herald:

EDC Chairman Bobby McKinney said that new age, online media has given anyone and everyone with an opinion access to share it with the world whether it’s based in fact or not.

“We are getting our eyes beat out online because we’re being out blogged,” McKinney said. “We need to be encouraging our business owners to get online and blog about things in their lives and particularly their successes so that when people do research online of the area they see that as well.”

I guess they’re talking about us[ October 29, 2009 – 9:00 am]by Tom Posted in » Albany Dougherty County

In today’s Albany Herald, the editorial contains the following paragraphs:

And those negatives will have to be overcome through a concerted, honest effort. Economic Development Commission Chairman Bobby McKinney noted that those who are promoting Albany are being “out-blogged” on the Internet by detractors.

Some new – and old – media are suspect in the way they cloak opinion as fact and attempt to draw attention and a sense of self-importance to themselves. But the best approach to creating an accurate picture of the community is not to worry about the unfairness, but to acknowledge the blemishes and aggressively point out the many good qualities of Albany and Dougherty County.

Now, the mentions of new media and blogging leaves me with one inescapable conclusion: They’re talking about us. Read More …

Biting the hand that feeds[ October 29, 2009 – 8:00 am]by Tom Posted in » Albany Dougherty County

People.  Every day I become more and more disgusted with some of them.  There are still some good people, but it’s becoming harder and harder to focus on them and not the pieces of crap that seem to put forth so much blasted effort in pointing out that they don’t deserve to be urinated on if they were on fire.

And I’m not just talking about the scum that tries to lure two young boys into a van to commit unspeakable acts.  I’m talking about the everyday scum that will never make it on WALB or WFXL since there’s no actual crime committed.  These are much more common, and may well contribute more to society’s ills since they can’t, and shouldn’t, be punished legally. And now Nunn joins the list of the clueless[ October 28, 2009 – 8:00 am]by Tom Posted in » 2010 Campaigns, State

Sam Nunn. Former Senator. Former Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Once upon a time, one of the most powerful Democrats in the state of Georgia. Now, we can rank him among the clueless politicians in the state of Georgia who really don’t know who Ken Hodges really is with his endorsement of Hodges for Attorney General. Read More …

Lee County Commission Meeting, Oct 27 2009[ October 28, 2009 – 7:19 am]by Jeff Posted in » Lee County

Last night’s Lee County Commission meeting was dominated by the proposed boat ramp and discussion of four bids for heavy equipment purchases by the Public Works Department.

Don Windham, a resident of the Canuga subdivision just across the road from the proposed boat ramp, spoke against building it, citing traffic, trash, safety, gangs, and teenagers, among other things. He left before I could speak with him but I asked another person who will be speaking with him today to contact me about possibly putting his thoughts here as a Publius post.

Leesburg Councilman Betty Johnson also spoke against the ramp, citing traffic concerns and maintenance costs. She had spoken with Chief Harris of the Lee County Sheriff’s office and apparently there have been almost double the number of wrecks in that area this year as compared to the prior two years. Chairman Ed Duffy also spoke against the ramp, again citing traffic and safety concerns. Ultimately, Commissioners Muggridge, Williams, and Roland voted for the ramp while Commissioner Johnson did not. Chairman Duffy asked that it be put on the record that although he did not have the opportunity to vote on the measure (as the Chairman only votes to break ties), he also opposed it.

Not MY loved one![ October 27, 2009 – 8:00 am]by Tom Posted in » Local

Picture this, if you will. Someone commits a crime. Maybe they’re shot by police. Maybe they’re arrested for a laundry list of crimes against the people of Albany. It doesn’t really matter what. What it seems is inevitable is that at least one of their family members will hop on television and say “they are a good boy/girl”.

Frankly, failure to take responsibility is two-thirds of the blasted problem around here! Read More …

Buie Denied Bond[ October 26, 2009 – 11:35 am]by Tom Posted in » Local

WALB is reporting that bond has been denied to former downtown manager Don Buie. The judge apparently denied bond because he considers Buie a flight risk, something Buie’s attorney has denied repeatedly by citing Buie turning himself in. Of course, he took his sweet time in actually doing it too…but that probably seemed irrelevant.

More to follow as it becomes available.

A slight change[ October 26, 2009 – 4:52 am]by Tom Posted in » Uncategorized

As you come to SWGAPolitics.com and attempt to comment, you may notice a slight change. Starting this morning, you will need to register to comment. It’s a simple one time thing, and I know it will probably seem like a pain. I really do.

However, some recent comments that Jeff and I have come to believe are from someone who is just trying to stir up some trouble has necessitated the need for this step. We didn’t want to do this, but it just seems necessary at this point. While we want discussion, and we rarely shrink away from much of anything, especially controversy, it doesn’t change the fact that we would much prefer real discussion versus someone just stirring the pot.

We will require that a real name be put on the registration, but it will not necessarily be required as a screen name. We know a couple of folks who need to use an alias due to their jobs, and so long as we know it’s them, they will be allowed. The same rules as before apply. If you have a vested interest in something, you need to self-disclose that interest, no personal attacks, you all know the drill.

We hope you will help us make this transition as seamless as possible.

Thanks,
Tom

RE: Ox Is Imploding[ October 25, 2009 – 8:09 am]by Jeff Posted in » 2010 Campaigns

Late last night, after I got home from buying my first ever truck from the great folks over at Ford Town (2006 Ford F-150 Triton XLT), I got an email from the Ox campaign that basically wanted me to look at EVERYONE’s numbers over the three polls in question – they specifically mentioned Handel and Deal, though I’m expanding this to look at everyone’s numbers.

Jason has a great table over at GeorgiaLegislativeWatch.com (where I’ll once again be helping him out once the General Assembly starts back) with all the polling data, including the Rasmussen polls in question, which is specifically what I am looking at here.
