Benjamin Franklin Literary Society

The Benjamin Franklin Literary Society, our local political book club, will meet tomorrow, October 1, 2009 at 6pm at the Sunset Grill in the Albany Mall. The book this month is Patriots by James Wesley, Rawles. Unlike the previous books that we read, this is a work of fiction that deals with a small group of friends who have banded together to survive the coming socioeconomic collapse. The group, as they initially call themselves, made major purchases and preparations to create a safe-haven ranch in northern Idaho once they saw the potential for an economic collapse. They also prepared by training and recruiting others with certain skills into the group.

Once the collapse hits, law enforcement, communications, transportation, and commerce comes to a halt. Looting, on a scale that we have yet to witness in this country, is on the rise and the group must fend off attacks to protect themselves and their property. As much as possible, they help wanderers that pass by the ranch while keeping the attackers at bay.

The group meets with others that are trying to restore Constitutional law to the country, and they form alliances with the groups.

The book is 387 pages long. One of the members of the book club said that he read it all in a weekend because he just couldn’t put it down. The author has his own blog at www.SurvivalBlog.com where he writes on family preparedness.

You are invited to come out and join us at the Sunset Grill Thursday night. It is not necessary for you to have read the book to participate in the discussion. Other books that we have read include; Common Sense by Glenn Beck, The Creature From Jekyll Island by G. Edward Griffin, and the 5000 Year Leap: A Miracle That Changed The World by W. Cleon Skousen. We will be selecting our next book Thursday night!
