Why is freedom scary to so many?

Every day, someone in this country is trying to take away your freedom. Usually, it’s several someones at least. They want to strip away freedoms that you may believe are so basic as to be beyond the touch of mere mortals, or maybe it’s one you rarely ever think about much less use. It doesn’t matter. Someone, somewhere, wants you to be less free. At one time or another, chances are good that this someone is you. Continue reading Why is freedom scary to so many?

March on Washington…Albany Style

I received a message from someone that wanted to know when the next Tea Party will be. As most of you know, there is a giant March on Washington that is being planned for this Saturday, September 12, 2009. Albany is sending several people up there. I know of six off of the top of my head that are either already there or will be there for this historic event.

Not everybody can go to Washington though. That is why we are planning a local gathering at Beef O’Bradys on Gillionville Road next to Darton College. Glenn Beck will be covering the March on Washington live from 1-3pm. I’ve reserved the room at Beef O’Bradys starting at 12:30pm. I have even made a Facebook event page for this gathering.

Health insurance reform taking shape

Last night, President Obama gave us an insight into his own plan for health insurance reform. I won’t call it health care reform, because our health care system is the best in the world. It’s how we pay for it that’s really up for discussion, for better or worse. And after last night, we know that the public option is, indeed, still on the table. State Transportation Planning Director Coming to SWGA

Newly confirmed State Transportation Planning Director Todd Long will be in SWGA today speaking to several area civic and business leaders.

In fact, the special called meeting of the Lee County Board of Commissioners – which Commissioner Rick Muggridge told me was at 9a rather than the 8a the Lee County website currently says – is a meeting with Mr. Long to discuss road projects in Lee County. I plan to take my lunch break from work early and be at that meeting – with my video camera.

I’m also told that Mr. Long will be meeting with Worth County leaders after that meeting, followed by a meeting with Albany and Dougherty County leaders at 11a.

This afternoon, Mr. Long will have a meeting with the Albany Chamber of Commerce, followed by a Q and A session with local media – which SWGAPolitics.com didn’t hear about until speaking with some of our colleagues in the ‘professional’ media.

Also on Mr. Long’s plans today are meetings with Mitchell County leaders in Camilla, and possibly a few other stops before he returns to Atlanta tonight.

I will defintely have a text post on both the regular meeting of the Lee County Commission from Tues night and this morning’s special called meeting at some point tonight, and I hope to have the video from today’s meeting ready at that time.
