President’s Speech

Most of the readers to SWGAPolitics have no doubt heard that the President will be addressing the nation’s school kids tomorrow. You can preview the speech here.

I just read it myself; and to be honest, I am impressed! The president pushed a radical agenda as hard as he could before the August recess to, as he put it, “fundamentally change America.” It is easy to see how some conservative or libertarian minded individuals might question what would be in the speech. Several months ago, former Vice President Al Gore addressed some teenagers on global warming and told them that often the youth can see the truth better than their parents. Would the president echo the same sort of sentiments? That is what had me concerned.

It’s not just jobs, but the right kind of jobs

With the upcoming City Commission elections, it’s a good time to take a look at jobs. No one will argue that jobs are a key ingredient of moving Albany forward, but there’s a bit of a trick. It’s not just jobs, but the right kind of jobs that matters. Let’s be honest here, all jobs aren’t created equal. Some are better paying with similar entry level skill requirements, and better paying jobs have a more prominent impact on the overall economy.
