ADICA hears of wild promises

ADICA is apparently still meeting and are hearing some wild tales of promises that were allegedly made by former CEO Don Buie. This include stories from Dollar Square owner Tim Washington’s claims that Buie approached him and promised the $50,000 facade grant and one dollar a month rent for two years just to get him to open his store.

More will be updated as more information becomes available.

Your Golden Ticket

Would you like a golden ticket? Something that would help you get into a town hall meeting with Congressman Sanford Bishop?

A friend of mine received this in her e-mail this morning. She didn’t even know she was on the President’s e-mail distribution list. Go figure!

I find it interesting that the town hall meetings are all “open to the public” but there is a place for supporters of the plan to RSVP. Also, notice the instructions in the PS that read, “Before the event, please print off a flyer to display and make sure that your support is visible.”

Busy day for city commission

The Albany City Commission had a busy day yesterday. Dealing with the aftermath of the Don Buie debacle, they decided it was time to save the taxpayers $15,000 and not hire a headhunter to find a replacement downtown manager. In addition, Commission Roger Marietta proposed amending ADICA’s charter so that board members can be removed by a simple vote of the city commission.

Yep, a busy day indeed. But it wasn’t all good. Continue reading Busy day for city commission

We want concerts, just not that one

Most of the time, the James H. Gray Civic Center sits idle. Over the last few years, the prime exception is during AF2 football season when the South Georgia Wildcats fill the stands with fan screaming at the top of their lungs for their team. Tailgating outside draws hundreds, while the game inside draws thousands. People from all walks of life huddle in the blue seats to watch the fast paced action, oblivious to concepts like “white” and “black”. It is what the Civic Center was designed to do.

When the Wildcats approached the city about a long term deal, it seemed like a no-brainer. All but guaranteed butts in the seats is always better than the Civic Center sitting empty. However, Commissioner Bob Langstaff had reservations. He worried that the Civic Center would be tied up with games and concerts couldn’t be booked, despite the fact that it hasn’t seemed to be a problem for the past few years.

Now, the Civic Center has a concert booked with an act popular with a lot of local folks, and Commissioner Langstaff is trying to kill the act. Continue reading We want concerts, just not that one

SWGAPolitics.com Beer Summit

Just another friendly reminder that we’ll be having a Beer Summit of our own next Friday night, August 28, at Harvest Moon at 7pm.

Someone suggested on another thread that we open the invitation up to politicians and other public officials as well, and I actually think that is a good idea.

So here’s an open invitation to any politician or other public official that wants to join us, we’d love to have you and I’m sure Bo Henry would love your money. :D

Remember y’all, there isn’t really an agenda here other than to have a chance to meet each other and enjoy a cold beverage or two, so don’t be afraid to come out!

Besides, Tom is the only one that bites! :D
