Welcome to The New Thugocracy!

The First Amendment is in the Constitution because there were people that were brave enough to stand up against those in power to demand their rights.

The freedom to speak without fear is the foundation of healthy debate in this country. It is from where good ideas are derived. The freedom of speech is there to protect the rights of the citizens to say what others might find repugnant. We do not need the right to speak in agreement with those in power, we need protection to disagree.

As the rhetoric in the healthcare debate heats up on both sides, we see tempers flair. We have seen people protest the government plan of reform, and recently we have seen counter protestors who are there to represent the interests of the federal government.

Looking for Possible Sites for a New Lee County High School

What good is having your own ‘major’ political blog if you can’t kick-start a conversation or two about a local issue?

The issue in particular I want to look at today is the need for a second Lee County High School and a discussion of where it should go.

Reports of overcrowding at the current Lee County High have apparently been rampant for at least a few years now, and quite simply, the school has pretty much maxed out its available space. Every addition to the current building now is taking away from some other aspect of the school that needs that space for its own purposes. For example, the addition of extra parking at the front of the school has cut into the band’s practice field, rendering it ineffective for full-blown practices and/or limiting what the band can do in their halftime show as far as movement goes.

Indeed, these reports are still rampant, even with the freshman being placed on their own separate campus.

Tackling health care

The health care debate has been front and center for weeks now, with disruption and accusations flying in all directions at town halls all over the nation. Pundits and Politicians on both sides are throwing around insults against activists and one another, all in an effort to win favor. And yet, they manage to actually discuss the issue clearly and concisely.

ADICA asks for rent…better late than never

ADICA has apparently finally decided to charge the Dollar Square some rent.  Now, the store needs to pony up $4,200 in back rent, then step up on the sole lease that’s been found that charges $700 per month from here on out.  Granted, this is still just a drop in the bucket compared to what other places are paying in the downtown area for space rented from ADICA, but it’s a step in the right direction.

And that’s just to start. Continue reading ADICA asks for rent…better late than never

This Made Our Morning

This morning, my wife relayed a conversation between herself and a coworker that Tom and I both got a kick out of (me when she told me, Tom when I told him), and I felt it worthy of sharing here.

Wife: Do you know of my husband, Jeff? He runs a political blog.

Coworker: Oh, I’m very apolitical. I wouldn’t know him “unless it is a major one. You know, like SWGA Politics.”

That last part is a direct quote from this coworker, per my wife.
