Bishop Protest on Friday

The month of August will offer many opportunities for protesting the legislators that favor representing special interests rather than constituents. It has already been mentioned on SWGA Politics that there are many dates to protest Congressman Sanford Bishop.

Friday, August 14, 2009, a group of citizens plan to gather in front of Bishop’s office from 12noon until 1pm. This is just a reminder of that.

I spoke with a friend today during the school’s open house. He expressed his disappointment with the Saxby Chambliss meeting and then mentioned that Bishop has a town hall meeting scheduled at ASU. He wasn’t sure that he could attend that one. If you cannot attend all of Bishop’s functions, at least plan to attend a few. He is here to listen to the people. It is time to stand up.

Thank you for posting this — I didn’t know but I will be there!

We had a great turnout! Something strange did happen…..a vehicle parked on the street suddenly had its alarm going off. Nope…none of the tea party attendees had touched it, or the media. It stopped and started numerous times. Enough so that someone went and looked at the tag. It belongs to a government employee and is from Calhoun County!

Once again we had great press coverage. We are blessed with 2 tv stations and 2 local papers that make sure they are at each event.

One gentleman spoke (WISH I had his name) and said ‘there is a train going to Washington, and it won’t be stopped. That train is us!” It was appropriately timed because a train was indeed passing by at the time, with the crew giving us a thumbs up!

Thanks for the update Donna! I’m glad it went well!

One note to add. Tea Party Protests or Rallies are not the place for potential candidates to show up and campaign. Do that on your own time. This is a time for elected officals to hear from their constituents.

And I bet I know who doesn’t get that one.

Look for the news stories tonight and tomorrow. I can’t quote it exactly, but an adorable little 2 year old had a sign that said something close to this “Mr. Bishop you say you are a Blue Dog but you act more like a Lap Dog” He was the star of the show!

    Donna,
Glad all went well today! We have to keep the heat on during the Blue Dog Days of Summer!

I hope the next protest will be better publicized beforehand. I was there, but only found out about it here at SWGApol early Friday morning. I could say that’s just me not paying attention, but over the course of the day I heard a LOT of people say they didn’t know about it. I’m positive there would have been a bigger turnout with some more advertisement.

  • JD,

    On it.

    Bill,

Can you go ahead and provide the full list of dates/times/places as you get them?
