Chambliss Healthcare Town Hall Meeting

saxby
Senator Saxby Chambliss was in Albany, Georgia today at a town hall meeting that was sponsored by the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce. Senator Chambliss brought in a series of charts and first talked about the people that are currently uninsured. There are four different categories of the uninsured that are estimated at 47 to 50 million people. Fourteen million people are eligible for a government program, but are not enrolled. Fifteen million people can afford private insurance, but chose not to purchase it. Six million people are illegal aliens. Americans without an affordable insurance option number between 12-15 million people.

Watch State Transportation Planner Confirmation Hearings Live!

SWGA’s own State Rep Ed Rynders (R-Leesburg) is chairing the first ever confirmation hearings in the State House of Representatives, this for Governor Perdue’s appointment of Todd Long as State Transportation Planner, pursuant to the Transportation Reorganization law, SB 200, that was passed this past session.

You can watch these hearings live at the Georgia Legislative Network by clicking on this link. It should open up in Windows Media Player for many of you, but if that doesn’t work you can download VideoLan’s VLC media player free and use its ‘Open Network’ feature with this address: mms://mediam1.gpb.org/gln606

More cops, minimal price tag

We need more cops.  Practically no one argues that point.  We also need to pay officers more to make sure we keep the best and brightest.  I also think that bad cops need to be bounced on the curb so fast that their badge and gun, asked for in every movie when a cop gets canned, is still standing in place inside the station.  However, how do we provide more cops and pay better without putting the city in a serious hurt.

Ever heard of reserve police officers? Continue reading More cops, minimal price tag

[IMPORTANT UPDATE!!] Senator Saxby Chambliss Healthcare Town Hall in Albany

Getting back into the ‘school’ mode, I turned on WALB this morning (I normally check their stories online), and learned that Saxby Chambliss and the Albany-Dougherty Chamber of Commerce are hosting a healthcare town hall tomorrow at the Bridge House in Albany. I have no idea where that is, so hopefully someone can comment in and let us know!

The event is expected to last about 45 min, with the majority of that allowing community members to ask questions – but you have to register with the Chamber of Commerce first. Per their website, their phone number is 229-434-8700 and their email address is info@albanyga.com.

At this point, I have no word on the time this event is slated to start. If we can find out later today, Tom or I will update this post.

[IMPORTANT UPDATE 6:05AM 8/11/09] I just heard on WALB that the venue has been CHANGED from the Bridge House to Thronateeska Heritage Center! Also, I have a video camera that can be made available for anyone wishing to use it. Contact me via the contact us page if interested.

Remember, the event is scheduled to run from 9:30-10:45 this morning.
