This coming weekend, I will be interviewing two State School Superintendent candidates.
I will be talking to Richard Woods, who is challenging incumbent Kathy Cox in the Republican primary, on Saturday morning for a sit down interview. I’ll try to have that transcript up no later than the following Saturday.
Sunday I will be doing a LiveBlog interview on this site with Brian Westlake at 3pm. The really cool thing about this particular forum? You can submit your own questions and have them answered in real time! That, plus I won’t have to transcribe it!
Seriously, I’m really looking forward to learning about these two candidates this weekend, and with school starting back I hope you are as well!
So please, join me Sunday to learn more about Mr. Westlake and his candidacy, and watch SWGAPolitics.com about a week from now for the transcript and audio of my talk with Mr. Woods!
What happened to the other State School Supt. candidates, Beth Farokhi and Cathy Cox? Are you doing males for one session and females for another?
Carol,
A fair question, and I hadn’t planned it that way at all. Basically what happened is that I contacted Westlake and Woods about the possibility of an interview, and they both got back to me at roughly the same time. I haven’t had much luck with incumbents running for re-election being willing to talk to me, but maybe Ms. Cox will be the first to do so. Right now, particularly in this race, I’m still trying to learn about these candidates, as I don’t even know that much about Ms. Cox – and I’m a former teacher!
In all honesty, I hope to be able to talk to every statewide candidate in every race at least once before next July’s primary.
It just so happens that this weekend is two candidates who happen to be of the same sex in the same race on different sides of the aisle. If it works out well, I may try to intentionally schedule the ladies’ interviews in the same weekend in a similar fashion – Ms Cox a traditional interview, Dr. Farokhi a live blog. If it doesn’t work out so well, I’ll try a different approach!
I gather that it “just happened” without planning the best way. I would think interviewing the two primary contestants from the same party might be a fairer comparison. Just my thoughts. I look forward to watching all interviews as I am a special ed teacher in GA.
Seriously Carol, if only you knew how little I actually plan…
Basically, I occassionally remember that I need to be more proactive in seeking interviews, and I start emailing candidates. When they get back in contact with me, I do my best to work my schedule around when is best for them.
Please continue to read – we really do appreciate all readers, and comments even moreso – and once I complete one round of interviewing all candidates in a particular race, please remind me to put up a post linking all the interviews from that race in the same post. That way even if the interviews happen over several months, once they are done y’all still get a chance to see what everyone said in one spot.
[...] Speaking of Mr. Woods, don’t forget that I am interviewing both him and Brian Westlake this weekend, and I’d like your input on some questions to ask both of them. [...]
