John Monds IS the best candidate for Governor of Georgia in 2010.
I wholeheartedly believe that statement, and I’ve already publicly and privately pledged to do everything I can to help John become the next occupant of a certain mansion on West Paces Ferry Road in Atlanta. I am FIRMLY committed to doing just that.
I personally met John at this year’s Libertarian Party of Georgia Convention, and he really is a GREAT guy and solid Libertarian. He is extremely gracious as well, giving up his South GA Rep position on the LP-Georgia Executive Committee to let me have it. I remember that scene QUITE well, and he could have kept that position if he had wanted to. Honestly, that scene and his actions in it proved to me what a classy guy he is, and admittedly, it plays a significant role in how I think of him. I’ve also talked to him on a few occasions about things both political and not, and I can honestly say I would trust him as much as a close friend.
That said, you don’t hear too much about him on this site. Why not?
Quite honestly, it is because his campaign doesn’t DO much. Indeed, while the GOP and Democratic candidates are going full-bore campaigning, the most recent update to VoteMonds.com, his campaign website, was the May 3, 2009 interview that he did with Fox 5 Atlanta.
Now, I know what his campaign’s argument is going to be, that we need to let the GOP and Democrats beat each other up over the next 350 or so days before kicking our campaign into active gear following the Primary.
The problem is, we can’t afford to. Because everyone else is out campaigning, people are already beginning to decide who they will support for Governor and why. Many of those people will ultimately vote for the same Party as their chosen candidate in November, even if their particular chosen candidate loses next July.
So we NEED to get out there RIGHT NOW and work to get the same levels of exposure as the other candidates. Ray McBerry and Austin Scott – two men that most people say don’t stand a CHANCE next July – are already out there campaigning hard. They’re both working the web and going to multiple events and getting their name out there.
Meanwhile, the Libertarian candidate is virtually silent. He came to the LP-SWGA organizational meeting in May and he’s been to one meeting of LP-Atlanta, chaired by my friend Anne Harper, one of LP-Bartow, and maybe a few others I am not aware of over the summer. But no interviews I am aware of, no activity on his site, very little Facebook activity, very little Twitter activity, and ZERO emails. Furthermore, any time John goes to a public event as part of his campaign, it needs to be on his website! Heck, John is going to be at the GeorgiaCarry.Org convention tomorrow on a panel with three other Governor candidates and a few other elected officials, and even THAT is not on his site!
The only other candidates that I’ve seen have the same level of activity so far? Roy Barnes and Thurbert Baker. Genuinely good company to be in, seeing as how many predict one of those two to be the Democratic Party nominee. Not so great company to be in when one considers the fact that nowhere NEAR as many people predict one of those two winning the Governor’s Mansion.
I genuinely do not expect the winner of this race to be necessarily the person with the most money – but I DO expect the winner of this race to have a fairly substantial amount of press beforehand, and press is generated by activity – even if that activity is nothing more than press releases on various issues and internet/social networking activity.
So to John and his campaign in particular, we need you more active.
Please?!
If he’s lucky in the general election he will draw just enough to throw it into a runoff where the governor will be decided with 20 percent or less of the registered voters in the runoff election. Way to let the most people choose…
This will be the first time voting for Governor since my husband and I moved to GA. Out of the current candidates we like John Monds the best. However, from looking at his website, it was unclear whether he was still even in the running or not. Additionally, I’m active on Facebook and didn’t see any events listed since the April Tea Party.
From what you’ve indicated here, he is still very active, but no one is getting the word out. As a marketing professional, I would be happy to do my part in NWGA – but his folks have got to get on the ball.
I already replied to Jeff directly but thought everyone deserved to hear my response:
As for the Georgia LP; growing pains. We just finished moving the entire IT operations to a dedicated server to prepare for future growth (be able to offer websites/e-mail to affiliates and candidates with improved state office operations) for what we expect to be a very busy 2010. We also brought on a new Operations director that we will be announcing as soon as we finish getting the bugs out of our mass e-mail program and develop a new newsletter header and format… and keep in mind, other than the operations director, this is all being accomplished with volunteers.
As for John, Stay tuned as well. We hired a PR firm and are updating everything, web site, issues, white papers, e-newsletters, fundraising letters, filming and recording commercials for radio and TV.
In a nutshell, everything is in foundation building mode… End of July/ mid August, you’ll start seeing the results of our efforts.
Thanks for paying attention,
Daniel: Thanks for the heads up. Inquiring minds definitely wanted to know. This is a great time for John to really get out there and start talking to people…since he doesn’t have to worry about a primary after all
I look forward to seeing what all is coming!

OK,its quickly approaching the end of August and the Ga. LP site is still an outdated mess. How can you expect to be competive in the next elections when new voters review your site and all they see is info on the last elections? Some things never change…..You would be better off without a website at all until you get your old one updated.
