It is official, at least as far as I am concerned.
I emailed Dr. Farokhi this morning shortly before posting about her twitter update last night, and she sent me back this email that had been sent to her that had originated from Jeff Scott himself:
Ending My Campaign
After much thought, traveling, discussing issues with various people, and looking at the political landscape, I have decided to end my campaign for state school superintendent at this time. Even though I feel strongly about certain issues and that I could have been a state school superintendent that would have fought for every stakeholder, now just isn’t the time.
Why you may ask? There are many reasons. However, I will not go into every one of them, but I do want to touch on a couple. First, I feel that going across the state with limited resources and still focus on my present career and give my best at home, was just too much for now. Secondly, I feel that I am at my best working as a statesman than as a partisan. This, of course, is very difficult to do running in any political party. I will continue to speak out on issues that I am passionate about and support those candidates that I feel truly are out for the best interests of all the people they are to represent and fully stand behind what they say, not simply one party or certain interest groups so as to earn their support.I hope to still have an active voice and in the future serve the state in a capacity either in an elected position or appointed. Truly, this is not an easy decision. I do want to thank those that supported me in the previous campaign and this one based on where I stood on issues. There are many wonderful people that are hard at work trying to make a difference, whether they are Democrat, Republican, or Independent. Our hats should go off to those whether we agree with their positions or not. It is my hope that this coming election cycle we will see candidates truly debate real issues in a respectful, adult-like manner, and give the regular Georgia citizen candidates they can be proud to elect. I hope life treats you all well and may God bless each of you. Once again, thank you for your support and for working hard to make a difference.
Jeff
