Phoebe violates it’s own charter [ March 13, 2010 – 7:56 am] by Tom Posted in » Albany Dougherty County

The Albany Herald reports this morning of Margurete Burns, an 81 year old Albany woman, who suffered a head injury back in February. After being initially treated in Douglasville, Burns returned home. The next day, she got a phone call telling her to get medical treatment immediately. So, she went to Palmyra. The ER doctor apparently felt she needed a neurosurgeon, so he contacted Phoebe. They allegedly refused to take her, so she was airlifted to Macon.

Now, let’s ignore the fact that there are laws stating that hospitals can’t refuse to treat people, and go right to Phoebe’s own charter. Read More …

A different take on downtown[ July 23, 2009 – 1:15 pm]by Tom Posted in » Editorial, Local

Perhaps it’s time. We have a downtown manager who can’t stay out of the newspaper with accusations of wrong doing that would have made John Gotti question his integrity. We have millions of dollars going towards bribes…err…incentives.  We’ve got a lot going on downtown, and none of it looks that good.

Now, that said, there downtown doesn’t completely suck. Read More …

Buie is a heck of a dancer[ July 23, 2009 – 8:00 am]by Tom Posted in » Albany Dougherty County

Even though I feel strongly about certain issues and that I could have been a state school superintendent that would have fought for every stakeholder, now just isn’t the time.

Jeff Scott Withdraws from State School Superintendent Race?[ July 23, 2009 – 4:30 am]by Jeff Posted in » 2010 Campaigns

So says one of his competitors in the race for the Democratic Party nomination.

Dr. Beth Farokhi put up this tweet that hit my phone at 11:46pm last night:

has just learned that Jeff Scott has withdrawn from the race for GA State School Superintendent

I am seeking confirmation of this right now.

When I spoke to Dr. Farokhi earlier this month, she seemed like a trustworthy person who would not pull this kind of stunt. However, when it comes to my reporting in particular, I try to follow the old reporter’s advice: “If your mother says she loves you, check it out.”

Once I get confirmation either way, I will update this page.
