Healthcare Town Hall in Leesburg on Thursday

A bill to reform healthcare was introduced in the House and a similar bill was introduced in the Senate this week. What does it all mean, and how will these changes affect you?
We have scheduled a town hall meeting for southwest Georgia, Thursday, July 16 to allow citizens to ask questions and learn from knowledgeable people on the subject of healthcare reform. The meeting will be at Fire Station 1, 342 Leslie Highway, in Leesburg from 7:00 until 9:00pm. This meeting is being sponsored by FreedomWorks.org and TeaPartyPatriots.org.

The panel includes:
Dr. Hattaway, MD, an Albany urologist.

Dr. Bussman, MD, an Americus General Practitioner, and board member at Phoebe Putney Hospital

Dr. Adams, MD, Mayor of Albany and MD Phoebe Putney Hospital

Sue Sabot, RN MSN, Hospital Case management, Medical Insurance, with Peach State, Intracorp and Liberty Mutual.

Dennis Roland, Lee County Commissioner

Greg Donley, Independent Health Insurance agent, Donley Insurance Agency

Ed Rynders, State Rep 152, Leesburg

David Catron, Director Patient Financial Services, Henry County Medical Center, and formerly Sumter Regional Hospital. He brings the financial perspective of both the patient and the hospital and its impact on you.

Sanford Bishop has also been invited to attend.

Panelist David Catron has written several articles in the American Spectator on healthcare. One called ObamaCare Can Kill You can be read here and another entitled ObamaCare Will Change Your Life can be read here.

You will not want to miss this. There is no admission fee, but we would like for you to bring a friend.

See you Thursday night!

We had a great panel tonight, and a great audience with thoughtful questions and interesting insights. Thank you to everyone that participated. We need more of this if we are going to make a change in our government. Come out tomorrow at noon to Sanford Bishop’s office!

Thank you Bill Waller, Tea Party Patriots, Freedom Party Patriots and panel members for providing this town forum. This was a great way to bring the National Healthcare debate to the local grassroots level.

I also think that it is important to recognize and thank the gentleman from Sanford Bishop’s office for attending the event. It took a lot of courage to answer questions from people with opposing viewpoints than that of his boss(Sanford Bishop).

I also think that it is important to realize that there will be an Obama healthcare plan whether we like it or not. In our efforts to voice our discontent, we need to learn the skill of bargaining. That is what politics is all about. Whether we like it or not, Obama and the dems were voted by the people. We need to find a way to minimize damage by bargaining (at this point)because that is the only way we are going to minimize the effects of the Obama healthcare initiative.

    Sara,
I’m not ready to capitulate just yet. If we can get this vote delayed until after the August recess, we stand a better chance of scrapping the entire thing. Give the legislators a chance to go home to their districts and hear from their constituents. That is why there is a rush to get this done before the break.

It was mentioned last night by Rynders that the administration wants to rush this through because of political capital. President Obama has been dropping in the opinion polls. In June he had a 56% approval rating. I believe that I heard on talk radio (so it must be true) that there is a disconnect between approval of the man and approval of his policies with the latter being around 37%. More on his polling can be found in this CBS report (which includes the 37% figure in the comments.) http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/07/13/opinion/polls/main5156648.shtml

In other political battles, I have seen that we can play nice and get tossed a bone or two or we can stand firm and either get what WE THE PEOPLE want or toss the bums out. I’m ready to hold the line.
