Macon, GA—Former Senator Eric Johnson, Republican candidate for Governor, today announced his plans to reform the state budget process. As Governor, Johnson will instruct agency heads to implement zero based budgeting and partner with the private sector to ensure that state government focuses on the most essential core functions.

“As Governor, I will direct all state agency heads to implement zero based budgeting so that I, the legislature, and Georgia taxpayers will know exactly what services government is providing and what it costs to provide these services,” said Johnson. “Like the private sector, government should be in a position to make informed decisions based on the total actual costs of different programs, not just changes in expenditures.”

If you want to talk about bad weeks, few of us could really compare to the last couple that the Downtown Manager has had. Don Buie has been accused of plenty, and now he’s had his purchasing authorization stripped as well. The city seems to be outside the walls of Don Buie’s castle with fire and pitchforks, waiting for him to step outside. In one conversation regarding Buie’s potential fate, a longtime Albany resident suggested something involving tar, feathers, and a rail. And no, she wasn’t completely joking. [UPDATED] Austin Scott is Walking Through Southwest GA[ July 11, 2009 – 6:36 am]by Jeff Posted in » 2010 Campaigns

As I noted when I first posted about State Rep Austin Scott’s Walk of Georgia, I’ve been checking in with its site, www.walkingwithaustin.com at least every couple of days or so since the walk began two weeks ago today.

As of yesterday, Scott hit the 200 mile mark somewhere around Columbus – meaning he is now entering the general SWGA area. So if you get a chance this over the next week or two, Scott will be in the area – you should go meet up with him. As I learned when I interviewed him nearly two months ago, he really is very open and approachable, and he really is interested in hearing what you have to say.
