Just Who Does Bishop Represent?

If you are concerned with Card Check (HR 1409), don’t bother contacting Sanford Bishop (D-Ga-2). He is a cosponsor of the bill that will effectively end the secret ballot process for employee labor unions. The bill would not only force employees to vote in public about labor unions, but it would also give more government control over private businesses. Bureaucrats would write the collective bargaining agreements for newly unionized businesses which would allow them to set wages, benefits, retirement, etc.

Why would our man in Washington be in favor of such control over private industry? If you read Mike’s article Betrayed For Money, you already know that Bishop gets a large sum of his campaign contributions from organized labor. If they have “bought” our representative through campaign contributions, it is only natural that he would cosponsor Card Check. That brings to mind the question, who is Bishop really representing?

One of the big contributors to Bishop’s campaign in the past has been the Service Employee International Union (SEIU). They were mentioned as contributors to Bishop’s campaign in this article published on May 21, 2009 in the Washington Examiner. The article says that the money was “dirty” because the SEIU had nine felony convictions of officers and members of the union.

Perhaps more troubling is the fact that the donations came from the SEIU. This union was founded by Wade Rathke, the founder of ACORN. Until recently, ACORN’s website showed a clear connection with the SEIU.

On his FOX News program, Glenn Beck recently described the SEIU as being the “brown shirts” or henchmen. They lead the protests against AIG bonuses by bussing protestors to the homes of AIG Executives putting the employees and their families in danger. Kevin Mooney has investigated the SEIU/ACORN connection and said on Beck’s program, “The Service Employees International Union and ACORN have exchanged funds back and forth; and you may know, the SEIU has been leading the charge for the card check bill, the Employee Free Choice Act, which was reintroduced just earlier this year.”

Many of Bishop’s constituents no longer feel that he is representing them as evidenced by the success of the Tea Parties in his district. Conservative stances, which should be the norm for someone that calls himself a “Blue Dog Democrat,” have not been Bishop’s position in quite awhile as he has voted for the TARP bailout, the Stimulus bill, the Supplemental War Appropriations funding (which gives the IMF $108 billion), and recently Cap and Trade which is expected to add $3K on average to every family’s energy bill. How do you feel about the job Bishop is doing to represent you? What kind of grade would you give him? In 2007 the SEIU gave him a 94. So, just who does Bishop represent?

Thanks for the info. I was unaware that Sanford was a co-sponsor of the Card Check bill. But I’m not surprised that such an inherently unfair, un-American, pro-union bill is being co-sponsored by our Congressman, from our poor but essentially non-union district. I’ll bet ole “sleepy head” hasn’t even read it. I wonder if he would be willing to field some detailed questions on it at a press conference?

IMHO, Sanford Bishop has made the transition from being “ineffective” to “dangerous”.

His constituency’s interest is not on his priority list. He has not even proved to be ambitious enough to parlay a long Congressional career into any meaningful leadership positions. Bishop’s primary concern is self-preservation. He is addicted to being on a lucrative government dole.

I am not a supporter of term-limits but Bishop is a poster child for such a proposition. Don’t get me started or I’ll tell you what I really think about the job Bishop has done.

I wish he would be a guest speaker at one of the tea parties.

Sanford Bishop? Speak at a tea party? Oh man, I would be in heaven! Especially if I’m speaking also :D

  3. Bill Says:

    Thanks Cartman for your input.

As far as speaking at the Tea Party, we prefer to have the politicians shut up and listen. They are all too good at speaking, but listening is where they fall short!

  4. Tom Says:

Aw. I was going to single out all of his wasteful spending with him right there in the crowd too! :( ;)

  6. Georgia deserves better than SANFORD BISHOP! « Irritating.Me! Says:
