The campaign contribution report for the favorite candidate of many commenters here on this site, Ray McBerry, came in overnight.
It shows almost $18,600 in cash contributions + $1,000 in In-Kind contributions, with almost $3,500 cash-on-hand.
However, this is where he has similar issues as Brian Kemp:
He only had three contributions of more than $1,000 – and two of those were from the same Maryland law firm that is operated by two men with the same last name. Those two men, Stephen and Michael Peroutka, combined for $8,000 – $4,000 from each, which is absolutely perfectly legal, even under the $5,000 I had thought at one point yesterday was the legal maximum, until I talked to Mr. Kemp himself and he showed me where to find the updated maximums.
I’m simply noting that it smells pretty badly that this one lawfirm, Peroutka & Peroutka – which is not even based in Georgia – is responsible for 43% of the total donations to a campaign that bills itself as ‘Georgia First’.
Like I said in the post on Mr. Kemp, and I will continue to say as these reports come in: I am NOT in ANY way accusing ANYONE of ANY illegal activities. I’m simply pointing out things that I think stink, and if you have a different sense of smell you might not find them to stink as bad or at all.
It is my sincere hope that Mr. McBerry receives more contributions and that these contributions from Peroutka & Peroutka become just a footnote in the overall numbers.
But right now, they’re not – and it stinks.
Isn’t the name Peroutka associated with the Constitution Party? I seem to recall a name like that associated with a third party from a couple of years ago.
I wouldn’t know, but it wouldn’t be inconsistent with McBerry’s positions for someone in the CP to donate to his campaign…his positions are pretty similar to those of the Constitution Party.
In fact, it wouldn’t be any different than Libertarians donating to Ron Paul’s campaign.

[...] As I mentioned yesterday morning, $8,000 of the $18,000 Mr. McBerry has raised so far came from Michael and Stephen Petroutka of Maryland. Now, it turns out these two are very involved with the Constitution Party, which is really what McBerry’s positions line up with much moreso than the GOP. However, doing some analysis this afternoon, there is something even more disturbing: [...]
