Unofficial GOP Governor Candidate Rankings By Money Raised

With unofficial reports (ie, press releases and emails) from Johnson, Deal, Handel, and Oxendine, and with the State Ethics Commission site being down for the moment for whatever reason, the various emails I have gotten and the comments on PeachPundit are now showing the following ranking of the GOP Governor Candidates based on money raised for this round of disclosure reporting:

Nathan Deal: $980,000
Eric Johnson: $962,773
Karen Handel: $430,000
John Oxendine: $420,000
Austin Scott: $180,620
Ray McBerry: $18,596

I’ll do some more analysis once the State Ethics Commission website comes back up and all reports are in, but it certainly doesn’t look good for the two that until recently have been considered front runners: Ox and Handel.

Sign Ordinance to get another look

The Albany City Commission has, in the last hour or so, voted unanimously to give the sign ordinance another look. This time, in addition to code enforcement, business owners and members of the general public are to be part of the task force to help build a sign ordinance that hopefully makes a little sense.

Unfortunately, commissioners rejected the idea of a moratorium during this time period, despite the support from a large segment of the community.

Let’s make sure to give our commissioners plenty of input on this so they don’t make the same mistake again!

The Albany Herald story is here. I’ll keep you updated as more becomes available. [Updates Below]

The following is a video from Jenny Hodges, Ray McBerry‘s campaign manager, detailing a very disturbing incident between her, her husband, and the John Oxendine campaign at the Cherokee County Independence Day Parade this past Saturday.

A special kind of overprotective

When I read this yesterday morning, I spent the rest of the day digesting it. As a parent, I understand wanting to keep your child safe. I even understand overprotective parents a bit more, though I still feel they’re doing damage to their kids. But what Susie Kessler is trying to do goes beyond what rational and even slightly irrational parents do, and crosses over into the epitome of what a nanny state tries to do routinely. Ray McBerry Has Contibrutions That Stink Too

The campaign contribution report for the favorite candidate of many commenters here on this site, Ray McBerry, came in overnight.

It shows almost $18,600 in cash contributions + $1,000 in In-Kind contributions, with almost $3,500 cash-on-hand.

However, this is where he has similar issues as Brian Kemp:
