It isn’t too often that I apparently get to break the story of a new candidate in a statewide race, so this is pretty cool for me. While Jason and I were working on updating GLW’s list of candidates tonight, Jason stumbled across a newcomer to the State Superintendent Race, Dr. Beth Farokhi. I stumbled across her phone number from an old East Cobb Democrats newsletter and spoke to her for a few minutes, just briefly introducing myself, both this site and GLW, and asking her if she had a website yet – which she does, bethforeducation.com. I then emailed her my contact information and she emailed me back this press release that apparently was sent to most media – including Tondee’s Tavern, one of the most well-known democrat-centered GA political blogs – earlier today. However, I have not yet seen any reports on her candidacy in any news source I regularly check – though it is certainly possible I missed a report somewhere.
That said, for now I’m going to claim to be the first ‘press’ to announce Dr. Farokhi’s candidacy, and if I am wrong, please correct me.

Looking over Brian Kemp’s financial disclosure statement, he has some contributions that while apparently technically legal, stink.

A story on MSNBC made me think, which is always a dangerous thing. In it, they talk of a “epidemic” of teen deaths from overdosing on prescription medications. So, here’s my one question, one that the story didn’t even ask, much less answer: If prescription drugs are so tightly controlled, how could this happen? Continue reading They’re prescription meds…How is this possible?

There’s been a fair amount of time since news broke of Don Buie being investigated by the GBI for taking a kickback, and he’s still working. Of course, it’s possible that no one really knows who’s responsible for placing Buie on administrative leave. Continue reading And Buie is STILL on the job

In a Rasmussen poll conducted in April via a national telephone survey, 53% of American adults said they prefer capitalism, 20% said socialism, and 27% said they were not sure. I have seen other numbers where the people that preferred socialism were even higher than 20%. How did we get to a place in the country where the basic economic structure of the country that has been in place since Jamestown is now losing favor to socialism?

Everyone thinks they know the face of the enemy. He is Barack Obama. He is Barney Frank. He is Nancy Pelosi. He is…George Bush. He is John McCain.
The “enemy” isn’t obvious by the letter after their name, but by their policies. They may make the case that they’re conservative or libertarian, but they may just as well be progressives in conservative clothing. Be they “R” or “D”, they are still the same thing.
