Zombie Bill! [ March 11, 2010 – 8:38 pm] by Jeff Posted in » Legislation

This one just won’t die!

Last year, one of the first bills I took on head on here on this site was HB 614, the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program. I teamed up with Jason and others across the State – including Neal Boortz at one point! – to get this bill killed once it was brought to our attention, and it died in the Senate only to have a resuscitation attempt made in the House in the form of an amendment to another bill.

Now, it has been re-introduced in a new bill, SB 418, minus the “Prescription Drug Monitoring Program” title. 418 is largely the exact same thing as 614. Clearly, there are elements within the General Assembly that desperately want this measure to pass.

Lack of Basic services a Good thing? I do love the country Life[ July 5, 2009 – 1:39 pm]by Publius Posted in » Lee County

I ran across some interesting numbers today, from 1980 to 2008 the population growth for Lee County was up 189%, we are the 12th fastest growing county in Georgia, and the 60th fastest growing county in the US.   The web site said our County was listed as undergoing “Explosive Growth”.  Something to be proud of you might say, people want to move here because of the “Quality of Life” but a word of caution from someone who has lived through this before, with striking similarities.

On this date, 233 years ago, nothing of really big historical import took place according to most history books. Nothing of note. Nothing of the significance to warrant a trivial pursuit question even. And yet, this was one of the most important days in American history. Read More …

The Independence Day Tea Party in Plains, Georgia attracted an estimated crowd of more than 400, not too shabby for a town with a population of 700. We had watermelon, games, and close friends. We gathered in the same spirit of the signers as we took a stand against an out of control government. We even had James Brown, Jimmy Buffett, and Elvis! Okay, James Brown is a pastor from Barnesville that spoke, Elvis was sung by entertainer Jimmy Hudson, and Jimmy Buffett was a llama that shares the same name as the famous performer and is the second famous “Jimmy” in the small town of Plains.

Tom Knighton: Plains Tea Party Speech[ July 5, 2009 – 8:46 am]by Tom Posted in » National

What follows is the actual text written up.  This were not the exact same words spoken at the July 4, 2009 tea party, since I tend to ad lib a bit at the podium.  However, Jeff wasn’t the only one who asked that my speech get posted, so here it is, by popular demand!

My name is Tom Knighton.  I’m the Vice Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Southwest Georgia.  I’m here to talk to you all a little bit about liberty, which makes sense considering what day today is.  Everyone thinks they know what liberty is, and for the most part they probably do to some extent.  But the question is, do you realize how little we actually have and how the powers that be have tried to take it away?
