The Albany Herald reports this morning of Margurete Burns, an 81 year old Albany woman, who suffered a head injury back in February. After being initially treated in Douglasville, Burns returned home. The next day, she got a phone call telling her to get medical treatment immediately. So, she went to Palmyra. The ER doctor apparently felt she needed a neurosurgeon, so he contacted Phoebe. They allegedly refused to take her, so she was airlifted to Macon.

Now, let’s ignore the fact that there are laws stating that hospitals can’t refuse to treat people, and go right to Phoebe’s own charter. Read More …

What do all these acts of legislation have in common? Simple. All came up in a moment of perceived distress and emergency. So far, Cap and Trade hasn’t passed as of yet. But the other acts? Nanny State: Coming To A Medicine Cabinet Near YOU![ July 1, 2009 – 12:00 pm]by Tom Posted in » National

As if harassing Cheerios isn’t enough, the FDA has managed to find time to go after another bastion of evil. That evil? Acetaminophen, the active ingredient in the over the counter pain killer, Tylenol. Yesterday, a panel recommended to the FDA that prescription analgesics like Vicoden and Percocet be banned, since they contain Acetaminophen and people have accidentally taken to much, causing liver damage.

Buie Under Investigation[ July 1, 2009 – 8:00 am]by Tom Posted in » Albany Dougherty County

Albany’s Downtown Manager, Don Buie, is under investigation currently as a result of allegations that he had a former contract employee for ADICA cash a $2,000 check but only keep $400 of it. The employee in question, Nicole Brown signed an affidavit but then recanted her statement, issuing a handwritten statement.

89 New Laws Go Into Effect Today[ July 1, 2009 – 7:45 am]by Jeff Posted in » Legislation

89 new laws passed by the General Assembly during the last session go into effect today.

Among them are laws allowing commercial advertisements on transit vehicles owned by local government, the ‘Move On When Ready Act’, changes to the HOPE grant structure, emailed court proceedings, changes to the criminal definition of kidnapping, and many others.
