Apologies [ September 8, 2010 – 6:14 pm] by Jeff Posted in General

We’ll get back to a semi-regular posting schedule in a couple of weeks, but for now I am tied up with my own election and am honestly too busy campaigning to keep up to date here. The election will be on Sept 21, and we’ll get back to posting at least a few times a week after that point.

In the mean time, enjoy Chuck Donovan’s latest youtube/TV commercial – and if you really enjoy it, feel free to drop over to his campaign site and drop some coin to help put it on every TV in Georgia!

When Political Ideology Strikes Home[ June 28, 2009 – 9:33 am]by Jeff Posted in » Editorial

When political ideology strikes home, a man truly faces gut check time, particularly if that man’s politics is at least slightly in the public sphere, as mine are through this blog and my actions with the Libertarian Party, among other things.

As a Libertarian, I oppose any government mandates on what kinds of coverage insurance companies must offer.

Cap And Trade or Energy Tax[ June 27, 2009 – 8:00 am]by Publius Posted in » National

H.R. 2454 calls for a “cap and trade” system for the regulation of greenhouse gases, and is in essence, a tax that will drive up energy costs across the board.

Independent experts estimate that in the next eight years the legislation will take $2 trillion dollars from our economy, redistributing it to powerful, favored institutions through a complex regulatory scheme with standards that are impossible to meet, as has been found in other countries with similar systems in place. Actually doing so would set our economy back over 130 years to 1875, the last recorded time our carbon-emissions met the legislation’s goals. Read More …

Austin Scott is Walking Across Georgia (and wants you to join him)[ June 26, 2009 – 7:00 pm]by Jeff Posted in » 2010 Campaigns

I just got off the phone with State Rep Austin Scott, who is a GOP candidate for Governor. I’ve been hearing rumors about him planning to walk across this Great State, and several people I mentioned it to saw it as nothing more than a campaign stunt.

I see it as a realist trying to do what it takes to get his message to Georgians.

Business Isn’t The Bad Guy[ June 26, 2009 – 12:00 pm]by Tom Posted in » Editorial

In any economic crunch, people want someone to blame. For years, business has been a great scapegoat. From Hollywood films and novels, to real life, the faceless corporate monolith is always a great choice for a villain. In many cases, such as with Enron and Worldcom, it’s much easier to make that leap and easily a justified one at that. In most cases though, not so much. Read More …

U.S. To Fund Somali Weapons And Training[ June 26, 2009 – 8:00 am]by Tom Posted in » National

For a nation with a huge deficit, heavy borrowing, and a situation that is developing a lack of trust in our currency (it’s only real value after all), we’re awfully free with our money, aren’t we?

President Obama decided to beef up support of the Somali government by providing weapons and training in an effort to combat Islamic insurgents. Of course, some of these troops we’re training may well be the very same people who drug Special Forces snipers Randy Shughart and Gary Gordon through the streets after they finally ran out of ammunition while defending a downed Blackhawk helicopter and it’s pilot. Crap Like This Gives the Modern ‘Civil Rights’ Movement A Bad Name[ June 26, 2009 – 6:34 am]by Jeff Posted in » Editorial, National

So I go out scanning the national headlines via Yahoo News, like I do every morning when I don’t see anything in the local/State media that really piques my interest, and lo and behold I find this article on the front page of yahoo.com.

Pick Your Own School[ June 25, 2009 – 1:15 pm]by Tom Posted in » Local, State

Today, Albany and Dougherty County news outlets are all a-buzz about the new state law allowing parents to pick and choose which schools they want their kids to attend, provided there is room at the school. Local school officials don’t seem wild about the plan, stating that it will add “unnecessary” difficulties. Me? I’m a bit mixed. Read More …

Health Care Reform[ June 25, 2009 – 8:00 am]by Tom Posted in » National

Last night, President Obama pretty much ran ABC and discussed his health care plan. Of course, the subject of a network basically serving as a platform for a President without real, substantive debate regarding the policy is a subject for elsewhere. However, the policy itself needs some serious discussion. Read More …

Congress Is Doing the Right Thing[ June 25, 2009 – 6:26 am]by Jeff Posted in » Editorial, National

Honestly, don’t expect to see THAT headline on a post on this site very often, but we do try to give credit where it is due, and Congress is, in fact, doing the right thing on a certain piece of legislation.

According to this AJC article, US Rep Daniel Lipinski (D-IL-3) has introduced HR 2870, which would order the FAA to restrict carry-on bags on airplanes to a size no bigger than 22 inches x 18 inches x 10 inches.
