I was away at summer camp last week with my son. Now that I have returned to civilization I wonder if I missed anything in the political world?
Actually, I did get a little news while I was in the woods. A text came through about the Cap and Trade bill along with the number to call. I was busy trying to get through pressing redial after redial. Another father asked if I was trying to call Sanford Bishop again. I told him that I was and explained the importance of this bill. The man simply shook his head, and he sat down beside me. He said that he does not let all of this news bother him. “It is easier to not watch the news and not worry about it,” the man said. “I am just one man and there is nothing I can do about it anyway.”
I hope that you, the reader, have not fallen to this level of apathy too. Our country has changed so much and so quickly this year that I barely recognize it. Suddenly we are running car companies, taking over banks, regulating pay for private employees, taking over insurance companies, and contemplating socialized medicine even though the CBO says that there is not enough money to pay for the plan. We now want our judges to rule with empathy rather than blindly, and we are passing massive spending bills without even reading them. This is not the country that I know and love. Imagine how the country will look after the next four years.
This root of apathy must be killed. If it takes over, our nation will perish. The father to whom I spoke cared enough about his son to attend camp with him for the week but obviously didn’t care enough to do everything in his power to stop the burden of servitude from being placed around his young son’s neck. Call me an idealist, but I do believe that one man can change the world. He simply has to be willing to pay attention and try.
Your boys will benefit from you taking the time to research and be involved. I keep trying to find a way to get people out of their shell and see what is really going and to take a stand. I do want to shake them sometimes!
To see what one man can do to change the world look no further than our current President.
